2. One of my favorite albums.
Plus, I love the way Adderly is leering at Nancy Wilson:

(Seriously - if you've never listened to this album, go get it)

9. Funny you should say that.
His nickname (jazz lore - possibly true) was original "cannibal" because of his eating habits.

10. I love that film
The opening is still magic; my mother's side of the family is from the area it was made and a few friends of her were extras in it (the courtroom scene). Joesph Welch was great in it, too. And Lee Remick; zowza!

16. Don Ellis - Tears of Joy

I discovered Don Ellis when I was playing 4th trumpet in our high school stage band. His style included some amazingly complex time signatures, as well as a band with orchestration that included cello, oboe, french horns etc.

I still like this album even though the arrangements have that 70s 'big band' sound to them, which to my ear hasn't aged too well.

Oh well - I still like it on the strength of personal nostalgia alone. That, plus 'Bulgarian Bulge', which has a time signature of 33/8. :)

18. Had to choose Oliver Nelson.
I have such reverence for this album that I only listen to it on occasions when I can really give it the attention it deserves:

20. Just one?
Impossible.

Here are a few of my favorites...

Alice Babs and Duke Ellington Serenade to Sweden, recorded in Paris in 1963.

And all albums from this lovely lady, Diana Krall:

and then this one, Jane Monheit who I saw in concert at the end of August:

Then, there is this one, Lavay Smith And Her Red Hot Skillet Lickers:

I could keep going.
