Name something everyone should do before they die

Here are my slightly trivial choices:

* Learn to drink good whiskey
* Learn to play a musical instrument
* View Saturn through a decent telescope

2. Hike the Grand Canyon
Don't just stand at the Rim and gawk like 98% of the visitors. Go down deep inside. Don't stop until you get to the bottom. It's only 18 miles in the desert round-trip. Any fat slob can do it.

6. Well, here's the rundown...
good whiskey- check
playing a musical instrument- never...I've tried, I just don't think I can do it.
View Saturn through a decent telescope- I've viewed other stuff, but Saturn is a possibility, definitely!

Although I would like to climb Mt.Everest before I die, but I doubt that will ever happen

66. european Renaissance instrument, early double reed.
The sound is somewhere between that of a kazoo and a duck call. :)

http://www.musikhandwerk.de/music/krummhorn_sample.mp3

It's shaped and played much like a recorder, except for the end which continues on and curves forward past where a recorder would have ended already. The reed is hidden in the mouthpiece, you can only see it if you take the mouthpiece off.

9. Obvious response, but I'm gonna say that everyone should skydive.
At least have a tandem jump.

I haven't done it for several years, but I've logged 72 jumps and I remember each & every one of them. There are only two points (for me) that are scary:

1) When they open the door my heart always leaps for some reason. Oddly enough, I'm calm by the time I get near the door.

2) When you're under full canopy, but low enough to see details. That's the point where you're still high enough to die from a fall even though you've had no malfunctions whatsoever. For some weird reason, it's not scary to be falling at around 12000 feet, but 500 feet away from the target always made me nervous.

But it helps to be as far north as possible.

It all depends on the current activity of the sun. Here is a website that monitors the Auroral Oval:

And there are free email aurora alerts:

35. Do something you always thought you'd be too scared to do.
Whatever is your own personal "Everest". Go for it and don't give up until you've conquered it once.

For some people that may be a trip to a foreign country, for some it would be skydiving, for some running a marathon. Whatever it is, everyone should get the feeling of victory at least once in their lives.

but to me it was a breakthrough....
We went horseback riding in Bermuda....
along a cliff, and down a hill that was, i can't explain it.
one of the trails was probably a foot wide... if the horse lost its footing you fell
at least 100 feet..... my heart was in my throat but I knew I would NEVER feel this way again... never..... i felt so alive after that ride.....
and yes I would do it again....

59. I did that -- it sucked
My only phobia is roller coasters, and I finally was coaxed onto the Big Eagle at Six Flags Chicago. Yipes -- the most unpleasant experience of my life. I still have PTSD-like flashbacks to that 10 years later.

I guess the lesson is if you're going to confront one of your fears, make sure you choose carefully.
