10. My Grandparents had a mini schnauzer named Heidi
She lived to be 18. She wandered off to die when they were at the cabin. Barked like crazy though. If you walked into a room where my Grandparents were, she would bark her head off for five minutes. No way to stop her. And if you left the room for a couple of minutes and came back, she would start barking all over again. As she got older and she started to lose her hearing, her barking became louder and louder. I just figured it was a good thing that she let my Grandparents know when someone was lurking around.

3. She was a rescue, of sorts.
Her original owners had a new baby and concocted a story about her biting one of the other kids. Pure bullshit. They were going to take her to the shelter, but my mom intervened. Wife & I visited Mom and fell in love with the little orphan, and now she's family. Bella is so sweet that she'll make your teeth rot.

Personally, I've always preferred bigger goofier dogs, but she's fucking awesome.

5. Not really "abuse"....
They tied her outside most of the time and tended to ignore her, but she always had food and shelter. I'd call it emotional neglect, but not abuse, per se.

Whatever... She's happy, and we're happy, and life is good for all of us.

7. That's a good thing..otherwise, if it was abuse then the owners should
be chained outside with no food or water for a week...oh, sorry about that...I'm ranting.

Damn me, I really should be more compassionate. But you have a beautiful animal there, and I'm sure she has a fitting home. Is that part schnauzer? because it kind of looks like it?

8. She's all schnauzer.
Normally, I don't like pure-breeds, as I think that the practice of breeding "pure" dogs is idiotic and often cruel, but she's a gem. After she learned how to Shake Hands, she got it in her mind to greet us at the top of the staircase with a paw presented. I don't care who you are, but that's fucking CUTE.

9. Yeah, that's why I love dogs so much...they have a sense of loyalty
and know ( and acknowledge ) what you do for them...

Cats...on the other hand  only come to you when they want something, and have a tendency to be very vindictive....there is one of them in my apartment right now ( my roommate's ) and she is just...NASTY unless you hold a treat up to her or feed her when she needs to be fed.

Dogs seem to understand that we aren't around 24/7 to tend to their needs, but yet...there they are..greeting us as we come home. The fucking cat just runs underneath the futon and hides until she knows there is food and water set out for her. I'm happy for you and your pets new-found home.

Thank you, sir, for taking that animal in..I wish there were more people like you. I wish I could do it, but I can't ( as per lease agreement )

13. ah -- great name -- Bella!
for Bella

Blessed are you, Lord God, maker of all living creatures. You called forth fish in the sea, birds in the air and animals on the land. You inspired St. Francis to call all of them his brothers and sisters. We ask you to bless this pet. By the power of your love, enable it to live according to your plan. May we always praise you for all your beauty in creation. Blessed are you, Lord our God, in all your creatures! Amen.
--Franciscan prayer

Bella, may you be blessed in the name of the Holy One who created you, and may you and Blue-Jay enjoy life together and care for one another in peace.

in advance of the feast of st francis and the blessing of the animals.
