5. The spark of a first kiss
My knees buckled. Literally. As did hers.

I still remember that moment as if only yesterday.

Many kisses came before that, and many kisses since.

But never again that electric spark that shocked my body and said: She's THE ONE.

Wherever you may be, Patita, I remember.

9. First time I saw him.
I knew immediately that he was the one. He did too. He asked me over to his place for dinner that night and I never went home.

We just celebrated our 21st wedding anniversary (together 23 years).

I will confess that I was actually engaged when I met my husband. I really, really liked the guy I was engaged to - we had a blast, were a good fit together on a lot of levels, sex was good (not great but fine) - there just wasn't any "spark". I was thinking that our great friendship would blossom over time into real love (with sparks) for me (my then-fiancee was passionately in love with me). I'd been living with him for more than a year and had maintained a LTR for 2 years or so before that so I felt comfortable accepting his proposal.

And then I met my husband and wham! I just knew.

My poor (now ex) fiancee. He was Australian and I phoned him right away to break it off. I hated doing it over the phone but there was no way I was going to fly back 22 hours to Sydney just to break it off. My short visit home with my family turned out to be a permanent.

15. When I was infatuated and naive enough to believe the chemicals!
I have been in love in the past, but looking back I believe that myself and the women were infatuated at the time we said "I love you" the first time, because it was WAY too early. The love probably came a bit later, but I didn't know it at the time. Even as a jaded older man at 34, I ALMOST said those words to the last one, but recognized that it was just infatuation.

26. Well, I was standing behind her in the line for breakfast at the hotel restaurant,
Edited on Mon Sep-17-07 09:26 PM by Redstone
and she was wearing one of those "women's business suits" that consists of a skirt and a jacket, and I was admiring her cleavage in what I hoped was an inconspicuous manner that she wouldn't notice...

She noticed.

To this day I cannot for the life of me remember what I said to her in that breakfast line that day 17 years ago, but it must have been damn good, because she's still here...3,000 miles from where that line was.

On edit: Or, it might have been when she asked me on the phone, "So you're telling me that I should leave everything I have in California, and come to Connecticut to be with you?" And my reply was, "Go to the American Airlines counter at the San Jose Airport, and there will be a ticket waiting there for you. It's a ONE WAY ticket."

that I was not even TRYING to make the guy fall in love with me-- he just WAS.

Every hookup or relationship I got into before this, I busted my ass to MAKE people fall in love with me. Breakfast in bed, expert sex, whatever. With reprehensor, I didn't have to do all that (although it was fun and I did it anyway). He was entranced by everything I said or did, or things I HAD done, or stuff I liked....I just knew he was it for me. He has been my rock ever since. We've been married 7 years now.

67. The first time I saw her...
....I heard a loud, silent voice in my head.

It said, "There she is". I can't say I LOVED her
at that moment, but I knew for a fact that I would.

That was just over 8 years ago, and it MUST be real love.
Because there's just no other reason that anyone would
tolerate my nonsense for 8 years.

My first marriage lasted less than a year before my ex filed for divorce. Thankfully, no kids. Not that my ex was a bad person, but she was not responsible enough to be a mom - or, a wife, for that matter.

I'll have my 6th anniversary to my 2nd wife in November and we have a 4 1/2 year old daughter. Hopefully, we'll have many more anniversaries together.

109. Reminds me of when I met my ex-wife
We were set up by a mutual acquiantence and had spoken on the phone (well, more like she spoke and I listened - she was very talkative)

However, not long after we start talking on the phone, she broke her foot, a few days before our first date.

So, I drive down to meet her and pull up outside her place and she comes hopping out on one foot to meet me... and imagine a fair skinned blue-eyed version of Lionesspriyanka (5 feet tall & rather well endowed) hopping quickly along a sidewalk on one foot... It was like something from TV where the guy sees the girl and she is moving in slow motion - only my eyes were popping out of my head because her boobs were bouncing so, um, vigourously.

and been friends for that entire time. But when we became a serious thing (with all our friends wondering why we werent already) we were watching a movie, sitting on the couch with her snuggled up next to me and she fell asleep in my arms. I then realized that I wanted this to happen everyday for the rest of my life.

Other than that, there is nothing really special about that night, there were no candlelight dinners, no big events, heck she was wearing sweats, but she was so beautiful, so peaceful there in my arms, it just felt right. Since then, I have been madly in love with her.

Edit: Since then, there have been so many things that made me love her more and more, that I had to think back to the first time that I realized I was in deep.

145. I didn't believe in Love at First Sight
But it happens.

I was meeting a "date" at a dance club back in 1995, memorial day weekend, Friday Night, Esoteria in Milwaukee. I was in line, a long line. Then she turned around and said "Hi", my name is xxxxx and this is my Fiance xxxxx. We exchanged pleasantries, they told me they were in town for a concert. Then she turned around and grabbed her friend and said this is xxxxxx. and SHE turned around and my heart melted, my jaw dropped, and I was in love. Plain and simple. In love. it had never happened that easily, that quickly, or that forcefully. My date was two hours late, and by then it was all over but the shouting. We exchanged numbers and began a semi-long-distance relationship, and in a few months I gave her a ring and asked her to move to Milwaukee and marry me. She did...

Now 12 years and two kids later, it's over, and I don't know how to get out of bed in the morning, let alone move on.

Fuck.

RL
