Hawaii sunset pics (last ones, promise) :
I still haven't used photoshop on any of these, but thought I'd share just a couple more from our last 2 days there:

1. So gorgeous!
The ones with the two palm trees and the ocean in the background are especially gorgeous.

3. I need to scan my Hawaii pics sometime.
Went a little more than 2 years ago with a bunch of friends for 10 days. It was beautiful. Saw Hawai'i, Maui, and Oahu. Every single day was gorgeous.

5. I'd like to see them!
Even my worst day in Hawaii is better than a good day back on the mainland!
Of course, I have to remind myself that life is not a vacation! lol :hi:

11. Here's a couple I found that a friend I went with posted...
Us in the water on a beautiful morning. We were at a beach house on the North Shore of Oahu:

Not really very scenic, but this is the group inside a beach house we stayed at for a few days on Maui near Kaanapali:

At Pearl Harbor near the end of the trip:

15. Thank you!
It was a great trip. I hope to go back someday. Right now, I'd like to find a nice, peaceful beach and just lay down on it for about a month.

We spent time on Oahu and Molokai. Molokai is already my favorite island and it was the first time I'd ever been there! :D

12. Ah cool!
I've done Oahu and the big island. Oahu is nice once you get away from Waikiki...in fact, Sunset Beach is probably one of my favorite places on earth.

I need to go back and do the smaller islands though...

9. Fantastic! I grew up in Florida, and palm trees are my favorite.
Edited on Mon Sep-17-07 09:35 PM by Radio_Lady
Now that we're time share owners through the Hilton Grand Vacation Club in Waikiki (and also Las Vegas), I almost feel that I'm going back to my tropical roots. Hawaii is like Florida but with lava... and waterfalls... and mountains... !

What island were you on? It's really hard to get a bad photo in Hawaii, unless you accidentally photograph your thumb!

Mahalo for posting.

OT: In the 1940s, photographers used to have painted flats behind the subjects.

This is my mother, father, and me at about age 6 when we lived on Miami Beach! Dontcha just love that palm tree?

We were on Maui for three weeks last winter. We hadn't been there since the 1980s. It has changed a lot!

No plans for Molokai -- it's been decades since we went there.

My grandson is so spoiled. He is only six years old and he's been to Hawaii four times! I can't wait to see him dressed up as Harry Potter for Hallowe'en. I got him the glasses, cape and wand. He did a quick try-on in the store on Sunday and he really looks the part, too!

21. There is a wonderful former sugarcane plantation in Waimea
They have renovated the workers' cottages, but you still get that "old Hawaii" feel. The grounds are just beautiful. I like it because it doesn't feel as slick and "resorty" as some places.

This gives a little slide show when it loads:

24. You're welcome!
The one "negative" thing about the place is that the beach isn't considered very good for swimming because the Waimea River empties out there, so the water isn't that crystal clear and there is some river debris (like branches, etc.) However, there are wonderful body surfing and snorkeling beaches a short drive away. I kind of like the situation because I think the place would be overrun if the beach was considered one of those perfect Hawaiian beaches.

25. My problem with Kauai is - it's not cool enough! I have to have air conditioning in my hotel rooms,
car, and restaurants. This place is so beautiful, but it would be just too rustic for me. We did stay at the new Marriott Waihai Resort -- just a brief visit in August 2004 -- and it was GORGEOUS. It's right at the Poipu Beach location where we had been years before, with good snorkeling, although not as good as before the hurricane of destruction (what was the name of it?) that damaged the beach and make it much different from before.

As far as Hawaii, our place at the time share Lagoon Tower in the Hilton Hawaiian Village is just perfect for us. They are improving the lagoon now and making it swimmable! (It was brackish and unsuited for anything before.) They are adding a new pool for the a brand new building.

My favorite thing in the HHV is going to the Tapa Pool at night (stays open to 10 PM) and swimming while listening to the Hawaiian entertainment for free coming from the bar.

For the kids and parents in the daytime, the Super Pool is quite beautiful -- and busy!

26. The name of the hurricane was Iniki
And, btw, the lagoon near the Rainbow Hilton Tower (as I used to call it) used to be clean and swimmable-- before... well, before... I won't get started.

27. Thanks, KC2. I have talked to native Hawaiians who remember swimming in the lagoon.

When we were there last year, the lawn in front of the Lagoon Tower was gone -- and the rest of the area was totally torn up, and mostly hidden behind wire and board fences. On the north, the Grand Wakikian was in its beginning phase.

The time before, while my grandkids swam in the small Lagoon pool (now completely gone) I was able to feed a small school of tiny silvery fish in the lagoon itself by crunching up some crackers. But, I noticed a foul-looking brown liquid (!) pouring from a pipe directly into the lagoon. Yuck! It certainly looked like liquid fecal matter, but I really can't tell you what it was. That year, when I complained, the desk staff told me about their plans to work on this area and I can't wait to see it finished.

Good night and good luck!

28. That looks beautiful.
Yes, the plantation is a bit rustic in that there is no AC in most of the cottages and the roosters start crowing at about 5 am so you have to go to sleep EARLY. Lol. Really roughing it -- eh? :)

30. Yeah... I really can't operate very well above 70 degrees. Just a hot blooded woman,
married to a cold blooded man. He wears sweaters in my 68-degree F. thermostat, but then again, I just feel wonderful in colder temperatures, even though I was raised in south Florida from the 1940s to the 1960s.

It's supposedly all set before birth in the deep part of the brain.
