Lounge vibes request for my significant other.....
He has turned up with a case of shingles, and is in almost unbearable pain.

In addition to the vibes, if anyone has any tips on surviving this affliction I'd be most grateful!

10. No, indeed.....
It is one nasty looking rash... Like Poision Ivy gone horribly, horribly, awry.

And I know the associated nerve pain must be bad- He's not normally one to really complain about pain, but he can barely move.

3. I had shingles once
Just make sure the DR. gives your SO pain killers and prepare yourself for the long haul. It takes forEVER for sores to heal.

6. They gave him a three prescriptions....
- an antiviral (I can't remember the name off the top of my head- Starts with an "F")
- Lortab (and I think we all know what that does- narcotic painkiller)
- Lyrica (supposed to be some kind of nerve-specific painkiller, with a high likelihood of side-effects)

And they told him to not be surprised if he was still feeling effects from this MONTHS down the road.... Ugh.

22. He hasn't been so bothered by the actual rash...
He says that it hurts if they get rubbed or pressed but otherwise aren't too bothersome (other than being aesthetically unpleasant). It's the shooting nerve pain that's making him more miserable than anything else.

He's chalking the whole thing up to his age (62) and having little pity parties for himself. I did what I could yesterday to keep his mind off of it, but I had to come to work today. He says that he is going back tomorrow...

25. Yeah, it's pretty common among the poz folks
one good thing about it, once you have it, you are unlikely to get shingles again as a poz person. I got bell's palsy three times since then, and a DR. suggested that could be a bi-product of shingles. They just aren't sure....

I just hope that they're not contagious- I've seen some conflicting data on this.... The Doc says they aren't, unless you've never had chicken pox...

18. ok
You should know that it is contagious to the extent that he can pass the virus to a child that will then develop chickenpox. I do not think he can pass shingles on because it comes from the chickenpox virus lying dormant within the body and being reactivated at a later time, causing shingles.

19. Yeah, that's what I've read....
I've had a LOT of folks tell me to stay away because it's contagious. But the dr says that since I've had chicken pox, it shouldn't be a problem.

27. Oh God!! Shingles are the worst!!
Vibes, prayers, energy, and whatever else might help!! I've sat with parishioners going through this torture. It's awful to behold!! If I knew of something that would help, believe me, I'd pass it along.

All I have is this:

29. I know there is a vaccine for preventing shingles
My Mom went through a severe case last year and it lasted a couple of months. The pain is still there. My Dad got the vaccine just after Mom was diagnosed. They both had no idea that a vaccine existed.
