so, it's "Car Free DC Day" today
according to this: http://www.nbc4.com/news/14138028/detail.html

and the mayor was supposed to be riding the bus down 16th street or something. I'm pretty sure I saw him standing on the sidewalk on 16th street, getting interviewed, while I was on my way to work this morning (walking to the metro), next to what looked like a pretty serious multi-vehicle accident, with one car smashed all to hell and flipped upside down, and at least three other cars involved. How this can even happen on a street in the middle of town is beyond me, although I suppose people think 16th street is OK to drive at highway speeds.

Anyway, I thought it was pretty weird timing all the way around....
