I decided to take the day off today
I just got home last night, maybe around 7 from attending my grandmother's funeral in Minnesota. The four of us from Texas decided to drive together. We took my car. While I did not do all (or even very much) of the driving, I still had to drive 200 miles home after I dropped them in Austin around 2. Even though I slept well last night, I did not feel up to going into work today, knowing that I would probably not get home until around 930 or 10 pm. My boss, fortunately, is an understanding guy, so I felt like I was able to call in today without any negative repercussions.

Plus, I have to go to the grocery story. I left in sort of a hurry so I just threw out stuff that I thought might spoil in a week away. So no bread, milk, and nothing for dinner tonight.

2. Good that you have an understanding boss
It's nice to have time to unwind before going back.

Just curious - did you find the drive cathartic? I ask because last summer, my sister in Vermont died just a couple of weeks before my daughter got married (in Minnesota, as a matter of fact). I had already planned to drive from California to the wedding and found that the ride really allowed me time and space to reflect upon my sister's death. It really was cleansing for me.

Hope it was for you as well.

3. Well it was mostly exhausting
And I was with relatives who sometimes get on my nerves. And maybe I get on theirs too, I don't know.

But, in a strange way, it was fun. We took my car and listened to satellite radio. My cousin for some reason listens to right-wing radio (he is NOT a right-wing) and it was somewhat entertaining (in small doses) to make fun of their callers.
