dare I say it? Once more into the breach
after feeling pretty miserable yesterday, and really really bummed out...

here we go again - sounty shelter, about 1 hour south of us, going there this weekend to check out this silly dog:

6-month old german shepherd/irish wolf-hound... I did call the shelter and have completed the first leg of the adoption agility course, they do have puppies there, so if not the silly dog above, maybe.... :crossed fingers:

1. What a bizarre yet very cool mix of breeds.
Looks like lots of Irish, less of GSD. Good choice!

5. ON YOU NOBLEST ENGLAND!!!
Look at those EYES. He's a keeper Dory. Looks like he'll be HUGE and CUTE: just what you want. Good on you.

By the way, this is Black Jack:

He's Lab/Shepherd (we think), agile and fast. A look on his face like "hey, you GOTTA love me."

6. Great looking dog -- Black Jack Sparrow?
he does have the "gotta love me" eyes...

the silly dog in the pic is a girl, her name is Lily - if we do decide on her, and have sucessfully completed the advanced adoption agility course we're not sure if we'll keep that as her name...

as for me I'm already referring to her as Silly Lilly...

7. I had not even thought of that...
...But that's what he'll be from now on!

You know, I don't know WHY there are so many hoops in those shelters. "Last Day" had two forms and some vet work.

Lily sounds cute. Remember, you want a name you won't sound stupid screaming; same thing with children!

10. I'm leaning towards two names
Wilma or Stella... cause I want to be able to step outside and yell "WILMAAAAAAAAA" or "STELLLLLLAAAAAAA"

but then we do have two greyhounds named Sunny and Mint... so I'm also leaning towards Julip -- then we'd have a Sunny Mint Julip... :spray:

13. Jack just ate our dinner.
Cailee put 2 pounds of boneless chicken on the defroster plate and stuck it WAY back in the corner on the counter.

It's gone now. Deb just called to tell me.

14. Good luck!
This dog adoption stuff is hard work...I have filled out 3 applications and have yet to get a dog. The thing is I haven't gotten a reason why - like "the dog you wanted was adopted" or "we feel this dog needs more attention that you seem to have time for" - nothing, nada, just applications hanging out there like a big matzoh ball.

I have one dog now - got her 14 years ago after walking into a pound in Louisville and walking out 2 hours later, Luna dog in tow....sheesh.

17. tell me about it
it's like going through an agility course -- over the hurdles, through the tunnel, up and down the see-saw - oops you didn't touch the yellow line...weave poles, more hurdles

now I understand the need to screen applicants, to make sure a pet goes to a good home - but it just seems it's easier to breaking into Fort Knox, or prying documents out of the white house than it is to adopt a dog

we started file folders on the applications, pics, info about the various dogs we were interested in just to keep the freaking paperwork under control

15. now we are in a dilemma - my partner just e-mailed me this one

Daisy - female, probably 7-8 month range
at a county SPCA 1 hour north of us

what to do? Go north for Dopey Daisy? or south for Silly Lily?
