Anybody into comic books?
Edited on Tue Sep-18-07 12:49 PM by american_typeculture
I never really was when I was a kid. But I found an interest in them. I'm reading 'Ex Machina' series, I also recently bought the first book of a series called 'Promethea' It's pretty wild. It's done by Alan Moore, who did 'SwampThing'. I have also ordered Alan Moore's work "From Hell". Which is intriguing, a scholarly work about "Jack the Ripper" done in the form of a graphic novel. I like Moore's interpretation of symbols and his esoteric style.

1. Almost everybody in the Comic Book Group!

I stuck with Ex Machina for quite a while, and have followed several Vertigo titles (Lucifer and Fables, most recently). I really dig League of Extraordinary Gentlemen, V for Vendetta and Watchmen. Yuggoth Creatures, not so much.

Generally, I'm uninterested in costumed superheroes, but give me a "Leatherwing" (historical Batman) and I'm all over it.

2. I'm not really all that into comics, but my husband is a freelance comic artist.
He's worked on some major DC titles over the years too. :D

3. Only to the point where I end up throwing them away when I am hip deep in...
ripped up comic books in my kids' rooms. If they kept them pristine I'd be inclined to store them somewhere safe. But they abuse the daylights out of them and I get sick of the mess. Oh wait, that isn't what you're talking about is it?

4. All my favorites have ended
Cerebus, Bone, Strangers in Paradise, Concrete.

I have the graphic novel of Ex Machina but haven't started reading it yet, the comic shop recommended it to me.
I liked From Hell but that is an old series and long since finished.
I recently got into Fables and the Mouse Guard series and I always hold out hope for more Grendel.

6. Cerebus finished?
I was into it for a while during the "going home" storyline. Did it end with his death, as the artist had promised?

5. I loved From Hell
and also Preacher, The Invisibles, Sin City, Sandman, V for Vendetta, Hellboy, and Transmetropolitan. Some others as well, but those cae to mind. I still enjoy some of the old super hero books like X-Men, Daredevil, The Avengers, etc. too, although I don't follow them at all, just read the tradebooks at the library sometimes.

8. I only ever really liked The Tick.
People keep suggesting graphic novels to me, but as yet I haven't read any. I hear there are some really good ones though.
