Is it a sell-out to record a song for a kid's animated movie? |
|
k.d. lang's "Golden Slumbers" just came up on my iPod. I adore this song and even liked it during the movie "Happy Feet" with my kid. I think it's only too bad that Allison Krauss didn't do the original "Baby Mine" in Dumbo. Though realistically I do believe that was before she was a gleam in her parents' eyes.

1. Have you heard the Bonnie Rait version of Baby Mine? |
|
The entire Stay Awake album is pretty good. Pink Elephants done by Sun Ra is fantastic

has been playing Paul Simon's "Father and Daughter" for a couple of years now. I believe this song was used in an animated children's movie, and it's evidently requested, or they wouldn't be playing it.

I'd think it was an honor, in fact.

7. Depends on how much you let the suits have creative control |

There's one artist I won't mention who caved into Disney's ridiculous demand that he delete his lyric "Santa Claus is a motherfucker" from a song he did for the Grinch soundtrack.

It really seemed like a sell-out when Elton John started doing songs for Disney movies but I hate Disney movies and it just seemed bizarre that someone who was once on the cutting edge of rock and roll would be doing soundtracks for them.

Why would children's desire for music be less "worthy" than adults? Just different tastes in music, not inferior.

Then it's cool, even if you take the money.
