Edited on Tue Sep-18-07 03:07 PM by Lisa
I live in Canada, and our electoral districts ("ridings") have names -- like "Vancouver South", or "Thunder Bay -- Rainy River". Our representatives are addressed as such in the House ("The Speaker recognizes the Member from Fort McMurray--Athabasca"). My riding is "Saanich--Gulf Islands".

http://www.elections.ca/scripts/pss/FindED.aspx?L=e

The Prime Minister sits in the House and also has to represent a riding -- Stephen Harper's is Calgary Southwest. (I guess if the US had our system, George W. Bush might be "The Member from Waco".)

In Boulder, my representative is Mark Udall. My district would then be called "Home of the Well-Meaning Coward Representative."

I live in Longmont right now, and I believe I'm on the side of the line that has Marilyn Musgrave as its rep, so this district would be called "Intoleranceville USA."

34. Yuppie-Punk 'Burban Farmed Land.
Is the only way I can characterize the very, very strange climate in my district, which is and always has been a bizarre mixture of rich suburbanites, (we even have our own mini-aristocracy on the West/South ends of town) and displaced/marginalized young people, (mostly artists who can't afford Portland) surrounded on four sides by struggling but stubborn farmers. It's wacky. We have a hodgepodge infrastructure, some religious zealots and more than a few Republicans, but we also have an AWESOME Dem representative whose personality is a perfect match for this strange little place.

52. high rent suburban transplantville by the lake
i live in one of the wealthiest areas of the city, but in one of the cheapest places still left to live there.

it's not in the tourist packet.

i live in a building that developers have probably drooled over since the late 90s.

the same family owns it. they've owned it since 1916. they either have no idea of the market or the 80 year old granddaughter of the original owner simply wants to provide a cheap, safe place for people to live in an area that went from relatively shabby and spottily dangerous, to an almost suburban zone within one of the densest, most urban areas of chicago.

Or more accurately, "Guaranteed Repuke Seat."

NC-8 runs from Fayetteville to Charlotte--it's a district that's 150 miles long by about 25 wide. Elbridge Gerry would be very proud of this district.

This district will elect a Republican to Congress even if he just got out of Central Prison.

I live in Danny Davis' 7th Illinois district. It encompasses parts of the west side of Chicago to middle-class suburbs (where I live) to a couple of upper-crusty 'burbs, one of which strictly limits teardowns (much to its credit).

About as liberal as you can get.
