Baseball regular season coming to a close, is your team phoning it in?
Out of a geographical perspective I've been a consumer, (I can't say fan) of the KC Royals, for the first time in four years they're going to break losing 100+ games in a season, so now they're just coasting down to the end.

It's disgusting I tells ya, so it looks like they're going to be happy to go 63-99. No fucking pride at all, phone it in, bag it take off early and go fishing.

1. Pittsburgh is just completing their 14th straight losing season.
I think they are finally mathematically eliminated (Assuming Chicago wins today)

4. I was thinking, you know how they give draft picks to worse team
They should give them to the 2nd from worse team, that way they have something to play for.

5. There's a good idea
Just like you have teams playing for the wildcard, give the second worst the better draftpick.

23. The Yankees have not won a world series with a Republican in the White House since 1958
Before you get too happy about the Yankees and I want the Yanks to win it all this year.

The Yankees have not won a world series in the 6 1/2 years of GW Bush in office.

The Yankees did not win a world series in the 4 years of G HW Bush in office.

The Yankees did not win a world series in the 8 years of Ronald Reagan in office.

The Yankees did not win a world series in the 8 years of Nixon / Ford in office.

The last time the Yanks won a world series with a Republican in office happened in 1958 with Eisenhower in Office when the Yanks defeated the Milwaukee Braves 4 games to 3.

Since 1961 The Yanks have won world series only when a Democrat held the White House.

Now that appears a coincidence.

20. Whoa

...talk about a win-win for you.

How on earth did you become a Brewers fan down where you live? We've got lots of them by me but Miller Park is as close as Wrigley.

Cheers :toast:

21. My dad (and until recently my mom) has lived in Wisconsin for 20+ years
Moved there just as I was finishing grad school. It's not home to me, but it's close. My dad eats, sleeps, and breathes the Brewers. Except when the Packers are playing.

16. Thanks.
I tend to lean towards your Twins when they're competing now, but the passion isn't the same. It's probably a lot like dating a new girl after the woman you spent decades with leaves. The new girl is nice and looks good, but you miss the one you loved for so long.

The only team I have left to root for is the Montreal Canadiens. Can you imagine the phychological wreck I'd be now if I had been a Nordiques fan in 1996?

17. That would be awful.
It is too bad my Twins folded up after the all star break. Oh well, next year. But I am pretty sure that we will be without Torii Hunter next year.

24. Actually, you're right, many have.
Boston is a huge tourist destination for Montreallers. If it picks you up any, based on the races I see so far the BoSox are going to be the team I root for in the AL playoffs. I can't read the NL yet, so I can't promise you full playoff support, but it is actually possible.

...however I do feel your pain, as a Cubs fan I know about losing seasons. Wait until next year...as the northside mantra goes.

Cheers

22. Cincy. They're stale toast.
I prefer to listen to baseball on the radio so now I'm pulling for Cleveland & the Cubs because I get really good reception of their broadcasts.

Ideally I'd like to see the Cubs-Indians in the WS with, even though I'm a hardcore National League partisan, the Cubs losing in 7.

It would be a tragedy to have the Cubs flaunt tradition by winning.
