Ugh - my new house has kittens
Edited on Tue Sep-18-07 10:33 PM by LynneSin
I love cats but the last thing I need are more cats and even though Percy and Bonzo (they're both boys - that's what I call them) are extremely adorable (Percy is all black, Bonzo is all gray) I'm going to have to do something about these 2 kittens if my new neighbor is just going to let them run the streets. They are both extremely friendly and would probably be adopted almost immediately if I can get them into a TNR group (hell I'll even donate some money to help get them fixed up for adoption).

I've been told by one of my other new neighbors plus the person I bought the home from that these kittens are from a local outdoor cat who is sorta owned by one of the neighbors but they don't really officially own the cats. From what I gather they aren't getting these cats fixed either or else we'd have no kittens starving for attention.

Any suggestions on how to 'remove' these kittens from the streets without upsetting anyone in the neighborhood?

4. Have-A heart traps.. QUICKLY
set them out, and get those cats fixed..asap.. Ask your vet.. My vet offers cut rate neutering of strays..

if there's a PetSmart near you, call them and ask about getting the kittens taken in on their weekly "pet day" adoption..

Take it from someone who knows.. once they have adopted your yard, they will bring their kittens there, and it will break your heart in the end..

if someone "claims" them, but allows them to wander and breed, they are not worthy of having them, and they probably don't even need to knwo that you have taken charge

5. "Sorta owned?" Well, maybe you and a couple of...
like-minded neighbors can sorta collect the "sorta-owned" cats and have them sorta clipped and snipped.

If the "owners" don't accept responsibility for ownership, screw 'em-- these are sorta-offisshully strays.

(When you just moved in is the best time to start a feud with your new neighbors, I always say...)

7. I think what will happen is the kittens will mysteriously 'disappear'
I have an aunt with a farm that use to have about 50+ cats. They were all barn cats and she took the time to feed them all. And yet someone came in there and had all those cats neutered, which now she has no barn cats. She was a little upset but it was probably for the best - they were retiring from farming and definately had no need for that many cats
