1. I pay $885 a month
But that's extremely low for my area. I have a 3-bedroom cabin but from what I've seen, studios in the area start at around $1200. :hi:

2. $969 a month.
Edited on Wed Sep-19-07 12:58 PM by NewWaveChick1981
This is for a 2340 sq. ft. split level brick home in a great neighborhood, 4 bedrooms, 3 full baths, attached garage. Bought for $137,500 in 1998; the appraised value is now $200K. :)

The $969 includes taxes and insurance. :)

3. About $1400
for a small 2-bedroom apartment.

And I'm extremely lucky. There's an apartment next door for rent right now... $1400 for a one-bedroom (and even that is somewhat cheap for the area).

Boring fixed rate is nice, isn't it?
What I like about a 15-year is that so much of the payment goes straight to the principal

One bedroom apartment in a small town in Minnesota north of the Cities. The bedroom is fairly large, modest living room, small kitchen, dining area. One walk-in closet, two other closets, small deck. New fridge, A/C, and dishwasher.

And the best part: 0.70 miles from my job! :-)

It's kind of a studio with some extra walls in. But it's sunny and it has AC and it's a cool old Victorian building and it's right around the corner from my best friend and two blocks from the bus, so I'm not bitchin'.

39. $545/month
includes $20 pet fee, water, and sewage. It's a 2 BR, LR, DR, sunroom, 1 bath duplex (bottom floor), and section of basement (with laundry hookups, sooo glad I don't have to go to the laundromat AKA mom's house anymore). It's a really nice neighborhood, but my gas bill is ridiculous in the winter (about $400/month in the coldest months, we're not going above 66 this winter).

40. Zero
Zero for my mortgage because the house is paid for, but property taxes and insurance cost me over $500.00 a month.

Can't win--if I moved somewhere with lower property taxes, I'd have to pay state income tax on my pension.

We almost bought a house in Coronado Cays....on the San Diego Bay, but couldn't afford the $75,000 :banghead: It's worth over 2 million now.

I loved living there :hi:

42. $725/mo
Rent on a 2-bedroom townhouse with 1.5 baths and a storage unit in the basement, about a mile from campus. It's much, much more than I wanted to pay, but unfortunately there's not much choice -- I live in a college town, and just about all of the non-scary apartment complexes (and some of the scary ones) are marketed to students, right down to rents being quoted per-bedroom. Don't get me wrong, I love my students, but I'm not crazy about being their neighbor!

Some other faculty I know live in nearby communities, but from what I can tell, it doesn't make much sense to do that unless you're buying; rents aren't *that* much less, and it's probably a push when you consider the costs of commuting (in both gas and time).

48. Approx $850
includes taxes and insurance. We have a small 3 bedroom, 2 bath home on a corner lot which gives us a pretty big front yard and a decent back yard. Our square footage is 1244, not including the garage. It's big enough for me, but my husband hates it. His family are all in real estate and own HUGE houses. It's small, but I'm proud to be paying less than $1000 mortgage in this day and age. We bought our house back in '99.

49. zip - it's part of my wages (ag worker)
Not sure what it would be - its a wonderful old house - big and roomy, three bedrooms two baths huge living room, big kitchen, wood floors, screened porch, sun porch, shade porch three part yard.

It's also 120 years old, gets mice and scorpions, no heat to speak of, no AC, have to fill the dishwasher with a bucket because the water system is on gravity and the pressure is not high enough, and it is either 2 or 5 miles on ROUGH dirt roads to hit pavement, another 10 to 20 to the two nearest towns, 60 to a city.

I bought 15 acres and a very small fixer house in 2002 for 58,000. I love it here, very secluded & quiet. It was priced less than 1x my earnings for that year and I decided to buy. Never regretted the purchase. I plan on paying it off next February. Life will be good then.
