Anyone going to watch Kid Nation?
For some reason I want to check it out. Here is what it is about:

"40 Kids have 40 days to build a brave new world without adults to help or hinder their efforts. Can they do it? These Kids, ages 8-15, will turn a ghost town into their new home. They will cook their own meals, clean their own outhouses, haul their own water and even run their own businesses including the old town saloon (root beer only). Through it all, they'll cope with regular childhood emotions and situations: homesickness, peer pressure and the urge to break every rule they've ever known."

Actually I think it will be interesting to see how they do. But it also seems like it will fuck these kids up.

"Who have been some of the worst U.S. presidents, and why?
George W. Bush, for leading us into a war without checking his facts first and for not having a clear plan prior to the invasion. He also suppressed anyone who wanted to question his decisions, which is against the American concept of free speech. William Harrison because he was too stupid to wear a coat at his inauguration speech, and caught pneumonia and died without doing anything in office."

2. Arr. I ain't made up me mind yet.
On the one hand, the show seems like some grand old entertainment worthy of song on a lonely night at sea! On the other hand, it looks like the youngins might've been exploited. 40 kids and nary an adult to boss 'em around? Yarr! That's trouble a brewin' if ever I saw it with my own eyes!

7. no,
I think it's unbelievably exploitative. The kids will probably come off much better than adults on reality shows do, though.

9. Yes, I'll watch it - it looks fascinating! Sadly, though, I'm sure they have safety parameters.
So we won't see cannibalism or any cool Lord of the Flies devolution.

The producers are, I'm sure, bound by law not to allow anything cool to happen.

10. I am!
I think it looks kind of cool and I want to check it out. There's been a lot of bad press over it because they say the kids are worked too hard and they are in some dangerous situations but I still think it looks interesting. I will watch the first one anyway and make up my mind whether to continue watching.

13. I liked it. I didn't want to, but I liked it. I like the way they handle it.

It's not Survivor. They aren't fending for clean water and food. They are establishing a society. There's no voting out - every few days the kids decide whether they want to go home. I like it. They seemed really inspired after seeing the gold star. :)

17. Here's some redemption!
I :loveya: Sophia!

Who have been some of the worst U.S. presidents, and why? I think George W. Bush takes the cake. The planet is disintegrating, we're fighting an unnecessary war, millions are without health care, the school system has gone down the toilet, the country is billions of dollars in debt, the world seems to be headed on a path towards destruction, and America's hypocrisy is mocked by many nations. I think that merits recognition.

18. Yowza! There is a Fidel Castro fan in the town!
OK, so my initial assessment was wrong.... I happened to click on about 6 rethug kids right off the bat, but the group seems more diverse than I thought! Energizer Bunny!

Guylan, age 11:

What world leader do you admire? Fidel Castro is a world leader that I admire for many reasons. Firstly, he led a revolution against a corrupt government ruled by an evil dictator named Fulgencio Batista. Then he went on to lead the country of Cuba by ousting their existing political system in order to instill a socialist government throughout the country. That meant out with the rich and corrupt and in with a more fair and balanced environment for his people. Although he has not always been fair nor kind in how he governed, he is like the energizer bunny, he just keeps going and going and going…! And no matter how many times we try to assassinate him, he just doesn't die. Although it is more difficult for his country to succeed due to the embargo banning trade with Cuba, he and his people have persevered and shown the USA that we can kick him and fight him all the way, but he just won't fall down.
