9. Tolstoy had a point

While I don't agree with his assertion that all happy families are alike, I do concur that all effed-up ones have their own unique twists.

Each of these people has a distinct way of making me ask "What was he/she/(and in the case of Michael Jackson)it thinking?" The substance abusers like - Spears and Houston - have some sort of excuse, but the rest are just - well - weird! They're sort of like bad accidents: I know I shouldn't slow down to look, but I just can't help myself.

They do serve a purpose though. It proves to us hoi polloi that you can be young, rich, talented, gorgeous and/or famous and be even more messed up than we are.
