I have a lawnmower problem! I have a Black and Decker electric mower.
And NO it's not cordless! The plug is spitting out the cord and black smoke is coming out. The only B&D service center is an hour away. I called them and they said something about "the cord" gets resistance. Does anybody know what he's talking about. It's a good mower and I don't want to buy another.

3. Stop putting it in!
Sounds like the cord has gone bad; trying to use it
might cause more damage to the mower itself.

5. The cord
Thanks, the B&D guy said something like that too. "They (extension cords) build up resistance" is how he put it. Anyway my sister replaced the switch, and when plugged in smoke came out of the switch. - if you look at the male prongs that protrude from the switch, they are black. Does that mean anything?

8. If this happened the first time with a new switch...
...then that would make the switch a primary suspect
as well.

But whatever it is, it's causing a short-circuit which
is throwing an arc at that spot. Those prongs are black
because they've been burnt. That's a VERY serious malfunction,
and not something to mess with if you aren't experienced.
