I am finally doing it. I am making regular use of my previously dormant YMCA membership. And I have joined Weight Watchers.
Any weight-loss-related good vibes sent in my direction will be appreciated. I need to lose almost 100 pounds.

This will not be easy. But, I am 44 and have a young son. I need to take better care of myself.

Do yourself a favor.... don't let the number on the scale be what rules you. Watch what you eat (WW is a terrific, balanced plan), exercise 6 days a week. (If you're doing low-intensity workouts, go ahead and do them every day.)
Yes, there will be days when you go off your eating plan, don't beat yourself up... just get back to it as soon as you can.
Yes, there will be days when you're sore... keep moving. Soreness gets better with movement (well, if we're talking about soreness and not injury).
There will be weeks when you do everything right and the scale doesn't budge. Remember to focus on other forms of measuring your success? How are your clothes fitting? How do you feel?
I would even venture to say that you should, for the time-being, forget about the long term goal, and shoot for a short-term one... 10 lbs. You can always set another goal once you reach the first one.
Good luck.
There are forums here for both Weight Loss and fitness. Keep us updated, ok?

13. Good luck to you! You can do it! Just take your time. |

I've lost 70 pounds over a year and a half.
I started out the same way. I joined the rec center and started out slowly. First going two times a week and just starting with the exercise bike. After a while I added the eliptical trainer and then began doing strength training.
I joined a softball team and started swimming as well. As far as food goes, I started by doing a low fat, low sugar diet, and tried to just eat healthy.
The first year I went from 253 pounds to 219.
Last February I started Nustrisytem because I wanted to work on portion control, and now I'm down to 184 pounds. My goal is 160 and I hope to be there by the beginning of the spring softball season. I'm having knee surgery in November, and my activity will be drastically reduced, so that's why I'm giving myself plenty of time to reach my goal.
So just know you don't have to lose it fast - one or two pounds a week, 4 or 5 pounds a month and you will get there. And you'll feel GREAT!!
