We switched from Dish Network to Time Warner Cable last night and added HBO. Now Mr. DTBK has firm control of the remote and I fear I shall never hold it in my hand again.

You will LOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOVE it. I am addicted to mine. Make sure they have the "Start Over" feature enabled too. Best thing ever.

We had it with Dish too - it's a must! I like this because it doesn't switch the channel to record, so you can keep watching something else on TV. The downside is that you can only watch it on the TV where the DVR is - with Dish you can watch it on any connected TV.
I will have to look into the "Start Over" feature. I've been having fun assigning colors to the guide - that sort of thing gives me a cheap thrill!

21. My 'DVR from Time Warner always messes up. Makes me nuts. |
|
On the plus side, they will come out and fix the problem asap.

I have Time Warner cable and was thinking of getting Dish... but I have my Tivo and everything all set up... I just couldn't handle the horror of such a change.

7. We wanted the cable/high speed Internet bundle, and it's not available with Dish in our area |
|
Otherwise we were very happy with Dish.

3. The remote control belongs with the paterfamilias |
|
God said it, I believe it, and that settles it. Or, in other bumperstickerian terms: You can have it when you pry it from my cold, dead hands.
To argue against the logical supremacy of the man holding the remote is to argue for the destruction of Western civilization as we know it. What's next? Anarchy and ice age? You should be ashamed of yourself. Shame!

Your pic is broken, although I'm getting the "bucktoothed crazy" smiley. I hope it was directed at the pic, and not me, since I, as the possessor of the remote, can turn off TiVo's Season Pass to Dr. Phil at a moment's notice.
It's like the power of a Roman god to hurl Odysseus' ship into the sea on a whim, or the ability to type with all ten fingers. Truly, my remote control has made me dei-rific.

4. Women shouldn't get the remote anyway. |
|
They don't know how to flip around (seemingly at random) during the commercials without missing anything important.

We were supposed to go out for ice cream tonight after dinner, but he saw that "The 40-Year-Old Virgin" was on and suddenly decided he wanted to stay home.

He never heard of this character before and loved "Borat" - so I don't mind (FOR NOW). I am recording "Top Chef" and will indulge after he's nodded off.

Shrinks say the remote, firearms, etc are projections of, well, you know. I say BS, we guys are control freaks. Sometimes a cigar is just a cigar.

15. He has to sleep sometime, but you'll have to carefully, slowly pry the remote |
|
out of his hands. Perhaps folded arms as well.
Vampires are said to be able to attack, in their sleep, anyone who opens their coffin, grasping them until night, when they awaken and can deal with them.
You may find yourself in the same precarious position, so be careful.
