Argh my daughter's classmate has called 3 times tonight about homework.
omg take notes! Since school started on aug 28th this girl has called almost every school night asking about assignments and then she calls back again and again because she didn't write down what my daughter told her.

Should i call her mother or just forget about it?

5. "Friends at school" is not the same thing as having friends
My kid's in that boat at the moment with the new school. It sucks. Also, I'm a high school teacher, and I see a lot of these kids every day of every year.

If your kid doesn't get it, it's up to you to explain it to her. And, while the world at large fully expects you teach your kid tolerance and compassion and all of that, you are perfectly within your rights to explain that the cut-off hour isn't 9:30. Ever. This ain't the Larry David show; the cut-off hour is nine.

If it were me, my gut reaction would be sympathy with a healthy dose of perturbed.

8. my daughter really doesn't mind but i'm thinking is it really helping her classmate?
i know short term it is but in the long run she needs to make sure she gets her assignments written down. I haven't blasted the girl on the phone but i did tell her what the cut off time is.

18. The weird thing is...
It's the look on Bert's face that clinches it!

I'm sitting at the pc while House of Kewpie and our sons are asleep upstairs, and I'm trying not to wake them with my laughter!

I can't stand it!

11. To let her decide if or when the situation is intolerable,
and to deal with it herself.

It will be a WONDERFUL lesson in self-assertiveness, and finding her own boundary lines.

15. I'm glad I was of help!
I've spent most of my life helping teenagers.

And in the 20 years I've been doing it, I've been increasingly pissed off by the helicopter parents who don't let their children grow up, and always try to offer to parents a parenting style of "benign neglect" - don't interfere with anything (unless they're self-destructive), but when asked for help, be helpful, but never DO for the child what they should do themselves.

21. Holy moley--where were you 20+ years ago, when I needed you?
I endured interminable nightly calls from my erstwhile pal Howie, each of which lasted two hours or more!

I was clear on the "my own boundary lines" part, but I could really have used a boost in the "self-assertiveness" department!
