What's the difference between GD and the lounge forum?
In celebration of my 100th post I have to ask - what is the difference?

I am not being snarky - I have just seen references here about GD being scary etc, and I usually post in the DUlounge so I was wondering, what is the difference - is it topics, posters?

I am still new so I would appreciate guidance

1. The lounge is more of a place to be goofy and bs with people
GD is a place to argue.
that is sort of it in a nutshell

2. General Discussion is for threads with political and/or current events content.
GD isn't really scary if you know what you believe and can explain why you believe it -- and if you're prepared to take a butt-kickin' from folks who disagree.

Welcome, nadine_mn! :hi:

5. Agreed....
And someone WILL disagree.

My best advice for posting in GD would be to make sure all of your i's are dotted and t's crossed, so to speak. If you leave anything open to interpretation, someone will ultimately latch onto the least likely scenario and lead off with, "So let me get this straight...." And there it starts....

It's not scary- just be prepared for the possible consequences...

8. Hahahahahaha!
I agree that someone will disagree.

I used to think GD was scary. Here's a thread that I accidentally started in GD. I had to alert on myself and ask that it be moved to the Lounge.

http://www.democraticunderground.com/discuss/duboard.php?az=show_topic&forum=105&topic_id=4985725

And of course, there was a separate Lounge thread about my stupidity: http://www.democraticunderground.com/discuss/duboard.php?az=show_topic&forum=105&topic_id=4985497

14. Welcome to DU, Nadine.
The previous posts here have
explained the difference well.

Also, GD has been infested with
trolls ( disruptors, not true DUers)
lately. Some of them even have a
high post count.

You can spot one by noting they never
contribute anything, just argue endlessly,
often talking in circles and attacking others.

:hi:

But perhaps due to the cold medicine you're moving a bit more slowly than usual and only just now lingered long enough to catch it. :D

27. GD is political theater
Lots of grandstanding, drama, personal attacks, stretching diversion issues well beyond the realms of normal discussion. Ultimately nothing is resolved or learned. It's more like a contest at stretching the boundaries of offense, rudeness, self-righteousness, passive insulting, and phony outrage.

33. When someone attacks you in GD
it's over a disagreement that's usually political.

When someone attacks you in the Lounge, it's because they don't like your favorite band, your ball club or your choice of restaurant.
