Having one in about 3 weeks. Just wondering what to kind of expect.

1. I've had a number of surgeries performed laparascopically
a few small incisions in the abdomen instead of being cut from stem to stern. Healing is much quicker than an "open" surgery, and the pain is minimized.

(Mind you--it's not pain-free. Cutting through the abdominal wall means there will be some pain when you wake up, and you'll be sore for a few days.)

5. well...
two of my surgeries were hernia surgeries (one gall bladder & hernia, the other just hernia)... and I grossly underestimated the healing process involved with sewing and/or repairing tears in the abdominal muscle. I thought I'd be back to work in just a couple of days... I needed to take a week.

The other was a gastric bypass and my doc would not approve my being back to work for 3 weeks.

If your doc is just going in to look around, you shouldn't need the healing time I needed for my procedures. I suppose it depends on what kind of work you do, but if you sit at a desk for your job, I can imagine you'd be back to work within a day or two.

6. Oh mine should be much less invasive than yours.
Hopefully they will just be looking around. But they may need to cut out a fallopian tube depending on what they see.

7. I had that done too... come to think of it! lol
my insides didn't hurt for that at all... just the small incisions... and really, that was no big deal.

2. 15 years ago
I had a laparascopy. At least, I think that's what it was called. They cut two holes in your abdomen, blow it up with gas and stick a camera in to look around?

Both Lap & Hys to remove fibroids. The first one was a breeze (fibroid was small). Second one was a bitch took a month to recover (fibroid was much bigger).

13. Had a laparoscopic hernia repair in 1999...
bilateral inguenal hernia, so I opted for the laparoscopic procedure because both sides could be done at the same time.

There were 4 small (less than 1 inch) incisions that left barely visible scars. Other than that, it was just as painful as conventional surgery- just for other reasons. For what they had to do to me, my abdomen had to be inflated with carbon dioxide. I had bruising over most of my abdomen from it.

All things considered, I suppose I'd do it again given a second chance. It was good to get it all over with at one time.

14. I've had both.
I had a laparscopic tubal cauterization years ago..went through the belly button for that. Had some pain the next day due to the gas used as it moves around and sore shoulders from being inverted on the table. Incision site was sore for a while too. Procedures may have changed since mine was done 29 yrs ago.

Had the hysteroscopy done about 9 yrs ago in the Dr's office to determine adenomyosis. Simple procedure..was awake and watched everything. Pretty cool being able to see the womb with a view..or so my GYN said. They don't recommend driving immediately afterward..and I had no way for anyone to drive me that day so they made accomodations for me to sit, stand etc. for a while and then I was on my way.

15. Interesting! Thanks!
Mine will both be done at the same time. I have already had an HSG which is a dye test of the tubes. That was kinda neat. I could see all of that on an X-ray. Kinda weird seeing your own insides.
