I NEED HELP!
Here's the situation-

My office is a serious mess -- I need to go right in there and clean it. I am procrastinating even though I am feeling GUILTY AND STUPID for not cleaning that gawdawful pig sty. Please encourage me to bite the bullet and march right in there and clean it.

Any method you want to use is okay with me. Even driving over here and screaming me into doing it.

5. Better yet, don't clean it.
Invite your boss over for a visit and act like everything is normal. You'll never have to clean it yourself then. If you really sugar coat your meeting with your boss and flatter him enough, he'll suggest the janitorial service come and clean it for you. I've done things that way before and it worked. Problem solved.

11. Another messy office person here!
:hi:

Mine only gets shovelled out once/year. I let it run downhill until it's beyond disastrous but my office actually IS in a barn so it's not too far removed from the proverbial pigsty anyway....

What works for me is to recruit the neighbor girl, a 20 year old clean freak. She's done this with me now 3 years in a row. I pay her a huge bonus to come in and get ruthless with me and the office. It takes us ALL day but it gets done.
1. Music is a must.
2. Set the date and stick to it.
3. Don't stop till it's finished.
4. If possible, get someone to help since they will compel you to keep going. Preferably get someone anal, who can't believe you have papers that haven't been filed in a year, that the blinds are so encrusted with dirt they don't operate functionally anymore etc. The more horrified the friend, the more thorough the job will be. Pay them big bucks to drag your sorry ass back to normalcy.

Good luck. My date with destiny always happens in November during my slow season.

12. I am impressed
with this advice.

Can you fly your gal over here?

I am too embarrassed to have anyone even see it... Not anyone that knows my name or where I live anyway.... I would post pictures of it but it would scare most people...

I have vowed to do it today and today it will be...

Zero Hour 9 A.M. (no kidding - I have to start in 6 minutes or I will die... I told myself this so it must be true.)

13. Booze might help. You could go the caffeine route but what fun would that be?
Good luck.

15. rider had fabulous suggestions.

That is exactly how I have helped my bachelor guy friend clean his house on occasion.

When I am doing my own house:

No plans to drive anywhere for the day, ie all cleaning supplies stocked up beforehand.

Day-long supply of alcohol, enough to keep pleasantly buzzed throughout the endeavor.

Music of your choice which gets you in a singing/dancing mood. Loud.

Do one room at a time (modify for office, one area at a time), top to bottom, inside and out. Smallest and/or easiest to clean room first, work up gradually to the worst room/area. The growing oasis of clean provides motivation to work on the others.

Laugh when you lose your balance trying to pick up a throw rug, because you're buzzed. Giggle when you dance through a doorway and accidentally bang it with your shoulder.

Sing. Dance. Drink. Clean. Giggle. Repeat.

Also good for yard work.

18. But if you clean it, how will you know where anything is?
Edited on Thu Sep-20-07 11:41 AM by skygazer
My office is a land of organized chaos - I know exactly where anything I might need can be found. I'd be lost if I ever cleaned it.

edited because I can't seem to type this morning
