1. Probably. When's it out?
These quasi-historical films are pretty popular.

4. I would rather see a movie based on "Grendel"
actually. A far more interesting book from the monsters POV.....

6. That would be a cool movie too
Grendel in that book is a very interesting character, much moreso than Beowolf, actually.

I don't see any reason there can't be both. :-)

26. Check out "Beowulf and Grendel"
It combines both stories and the scenery is beautiful. They do a kind of weird thing with this female character they add in that I am not sure I like, but it does implement some of the concepts from Gardner's novel (goes a different direction in a couple instances, but still has the "Grendel as misunderstood" viewpoint).

Since I'm an English Lit geek. :D My English teacher in high school even made us learn a passage in Old English.

It's been a relief to relocate back up North to be amongst my Yankee brethren.

14. Oh hell no.
The preview makes it look like everything wrong with Hollywood adapting literature for the big screen.

We're talking Scarlet Letter style abominations.

But I could be wrong.

27. Nothing
and I repeat NOTHING could be as big of an abomination as Demi Moore's "Scarlet Letter" (or as I like to call it "Last of the Scarlet Crucible"). Did you read Moore's quotation that it wasn't a big deal to change it to a happy ending since not many people have actually read the book?

17. I hope it's better than the Gerald Butler version
Beowulf and Grendal. Crikey, some of those actors were wearing Monty Python beards.

And the story is quite bad ass, I really want this one to translate to the big screen well.

"Sexy Beast" w/ Ben Kingsley and Ian McShane

"Victor" won an Emmy for it. I've seen the reruns on BBC America.

"The Proposition" w/ Guy Pearce and Emily Watson

24. You should see Benjamin Bagby's Beowulf
Edited on Thu Sep-20-07 05:19 PM by ashling
I saw an interview with this guy on ABC News Now. It was riveting. And true to the image that the 6th century Anglo Saxon would have witnessed.

I want to see the movie too, however

oops! almost forgot:

"When Grendel came creeping, accursed of God."

Good times. :)

but I realize full well going into the theater that it may very well be a horrific ruination of a classic story.

30. Looking for forward to seeing it.
FWIW, recommend Seamus Heaney's translation for anyone who hasn't read it yet.

Probably setting myself up for a GD type slam down, but I enjoyed The Thirteenth Warrior. Interesting take.
