:hi: It was in Chapel Hill, NC, and I was fresh out of college with no health insurance (this was 1985). They were caring people and were genuinely interested in women's reproductive health and rights. I know that was a long time ago and the social atmosphere has changed, but I see no reason not to go.

I've had very good experiences with them. They treated me (as a lower-income patient) equally and with as much dignity as you can muster in the stirrups.
Good organization, if overworked and generally less respected than they should be.

I may switch to them. I had been using one of those emergent care places, but PP may be better.

16. I had a vasectomy at one in Washington, DC. |
|
Great stuff! They were all fantastic, and the only hitch was that the doc hadn't administered quite enough local anasthetic prior to the first incision. They remedied that problem quite quickly.
That's this DU Lady's story. I have more, but I would be speaking on behalf of another lady. Love the Planned Parenthood!

It's individuals that are the problem... most experiences were good, but the bad ones were REALLY frcikin bad... all cause some holier than thou types were working there when I went.
If you can put up with assholes, it'll be no problem. :)

I love Planned Parenthood. I go there for my annual pap and birth control pills. The nurses always take the time to answer all my questions and they're always very nice and non-judgmental. It's fun to talk to them about politics too.
I've only seen one protester outside the clinic I go to. He was on the far end of the parking lot standing there with tape over his mouth. Approximately 30 yards to the left of him was a police officer standing there to make sure the protester didn't start harassing the people going in or out of the clinic. I guess the protester was protesting PP in general or he was too lazy to do his research. If he had, he would have found out that this particular clinic doesn't perform abortions so his protest was a bit silly unless he just really hates birth control and STD testing, lol.

Some offices are MUCH better than others, so it doesn't hurt to ask around if there's more than one in your area.

21. When I was in college many moons ago |

PP was the only place broke women could go for female checkups. I got a full GYN checkup and PAP smear and the BC pills were dirt cheap. I had primary dysmenorrhea and they were able to diagnose and treat that. Had they not been available, I would not have had those checkups.
I think PP only does the dreaded abortions (if they do it at all) on Wednesday mornings. The rest of the time it's a regular OB/GYN clinic.

25. Last year for the annual poke-and-prod |
|
I had just moved when my BC scrip came due, and I didn't have time to research doctors. I was in and out fairly quickly, no fundangelicals outside protesting. The only problem was that my health insurance didn't accept them as an approved provider (considering that the insurance was through a Catholic university, no big surprise), so I ended up shelling out $$ for the visit.
