I say it is, but the friend who sent it says jokes involve generalizations.
Just another day in the life of a turban-headed desert dweller... Who came To visit the U.S. !!! Visiting the U.S. For the first time, an Afghani diplomat was being wined and dined by the State Department. The Mullah wasn't accustomed to the salt in American food (French fries, cheese, etc.) and was constantly sending his man-servant, Abdul, to fetch him a glass of water.
Time and again, Abdul would scamper off and return with a glass of water. But then came the time he returned empty-handed.
"Abdul, you son of an ugly camel, where is my water?" demanded the Mullah.
"A thousand pardons, O Illustrious One," stammered the wretched Abdul, "but a man is sitting on the well."

I didn't laugh either. It was typical of the crap sent right after 9/11.

7. Your friend is right about the generalizations.. |

You should mention to him generalization/stereotypes are based on racist ideas.

8. Not racist. Afghani is a nationality. Perhaps an ethnicity. |
|
I'm not sure "nationalist" or "ethnicist" (I don't even think that's a word) work, though...but that's probably not what you're asking.
Fish-out-of-water jokes can be funny and tactful. This one is neither.

"Turban-headed" should be your first clue.
Mullahs are religious figures, not diplomats (except in theocracies like Iran, and we all know Afghanistan isn't one any more, right?) And really, salt in cheese?! Maybe at RimJob's FReeper Diner...
And again, for about the 8,367,431st time, we see bigotry juxtaposed with idiocy. :eyes:

14. Most cheese is heavily salted. |
|
Salt is not an optional ingredient in mozzarella or cheddar, for instance.
