So the New Intern Says, 'I Was Hoping You Could Teach Me Some Things ...' |
|
Edited on Fri Sep-21-07 11:30 AM by Crisco
WTF? This is three semesters in a row, so I must assume they're being advised to ask.
We're talking about stuff like Photoshop, some light scripting, btw. MySQL. Things I taught myself by doing, good old trial-and-error, by seeing how other people did it, and by reading manuals.
They're paying $19k-$34 k per year in tuition alone. You'd think they'd make room for a Photoshop class in there somewhere, eh?
I suppose I could offer to bill them $80 per hour for tutoring.

Well, depending on the intern. Had it been that swarthy thing we had two years ago ...

3. Aren't interns supposed to learn something? |
|
My husband had an internship where the college determined that he did not learn enough so he only got paid, not credit.

4. I Always Thought They Were Supposed to Work |
|
And come into the business having some idea of the tasks they'd be doing. Perhaps my place of business just isn't organized enough for that. (sounds about right, really)
At least your husband got paid. One of the schools we work with requires its students to take a 32-hour work week for a semester's internship. Utterly ridiculous, IMO.
