Has anyone here gotten married in Vegas? |
|
My SO and I are getting married in February (unless I throttle him first but that's another story) and we've decided to do it at our favorite camping spot in the Los Padres National Forest.
But the other option we discussed was going to Vegas and getting married by an Elvis impersonator. Which made me wonder if anyone here did the whole Vegas thing.

2. I did for my second marriage in 1996 |

Didn't do the Elvis impersonator bit, but it was pretty memorable, anyhow. We spent three days there, much of it at the quarter slots, and I was out just $21 at the end. Had a swell wedding dinner at the Flamingo. A bit of advice my now-ex father-in-law gave me: When you look in the mirror and your eyes look like two piss holes in a snowbank, it's time to go home. Believe me, you'll recognize the look when you see it looking back at you. Best wishes for a happy and successful marriage. John Oh, yeah -- my Vegas marriage lasted 24 months. I'm on number three now, which was performed at the courthouse -- about 12 blocks from here.

3. This will be number 3 for both of us |
|
Which is why we're not doing anything fancy. We just want to do it in a way that's fun for us. :hi:

8. Number three for me, number four for Annie |
|
She says that in her family, it's the fourth marriage that takes. Her father's fourth and her brother's fourth were/are both successful and ours is doing great nine months in -- especially since she broke her leg (in two places) a month after we hitched up and it's been a slow (but steady) recuperation since. Richer or poorer, sickness or health, etc. etc. John Of course, I chased her for 35 years. Persistence is its own reward.

4. I had a friend do that |
|
It was an interesting wedding. He wore a Hawaiian shirt, she wore a formal wedding dress, and Elvis performed the ceremony. Weird.

5. Weird is what appealed to us |
|
In the end, we decided we'd rather go camping but it was a choice between campy and camping, I guess. :P

6. No, but we got married in Reno |
|
We booked the Chapel of the Bells for 7:00 one evening. We were driving out west from Wichita and decided to stop on the way and get married. Got married with two employee witnesses. Had a nice video made. Whole thing cost $110. Wedding dinner was pizza at the hotel.
My best friend from high school (whom I understand is now residing in a federal prison, but that has nothing to do with me and is a story for another day), claims to have been married in Vegas by an Elvis impersonator. Somehow I have trouble believing anything she said after she told me she had attended law school, but was subsequently learned to have been stealing credit card numbers from doctors while she worked as an emergency room secretary.
ANYWAY, the Reno thing worked out very well for us.

It was my second marriage and his first. We had a traditional wedding at Little Chapel of the Flowers. I hate, hate, hate to plan stuff like that which was a driving factor in going to Vegas. Those people know how to put on a wedding! We had the nuptials and only our 3 best friends were there. I had a drop dead bouquet made of silk Texas wildflowers, a white tea length dress and Derby wore a tux.
After the wedding, we sealed the deal with a ride on the Big Shot!
edit to add: We're going on 8 years and still going strong!

10. They broadcast our wedding on the Internet, too |
|
At the time, Little Chapel of the Flowers was the only Vegas chapel that offered Internet broadcasts. That way, our family could gather at home and watch our wedding without having to make the trip themselves. They had a little party with snacks and everything.
Our first meal after the wedding was funky Tex-Mex at the Frontier, complete with a giant frozen margarita for ginbarn. Supper was at the Buccaneer Bay Club at Treasure Island. Yum.
The only celebrity couple I know of that got married at our chapel was Dennis Rodman and Carmen Electra - and I'm happy to say that our marriage has outlasted theirs by a fair portion.

We decided that any kind of a wedding for our friends and family would be STUPID.... (kidding) I am the one who never dreamt of having a wedding... I never understood that sort of thing. We went to Vegas, got our license and walked to the nearest marriage place - about 40 yards from the Clark County Court house and a guy named Anthony performed the service - he used a white boom box to play the bridal march --- It cost us about $75 --- we used our money to put a down payment on this house.
We did see a great show in Vegas, gambled and had fun... No stress is my motto.

12. I did - but not by an Elvis impersonator.... |
|
We got married at the Rio Hotel. We used their "chapel" and had a small reception for our friends and family in our suite. The honeymoon suites are huge and we had 40 people in their without it feeling crowded. That saved tons of money since we ordered platters from Whole Foods (instead of room service or their wedding menu) and brought our own drinks.
The package we used was cheaper during Mon-Thur, so we got married on a Thursday.

We aren't in complete agreement about the Elvis impersonator, though. He says yes to that, I say no.

I wanted the Elvis impersonator too, but my wife didn't go for that.
Great place and we are going back out in 2 weeks to celebrate our 14th anniversary (so Vegas marriages can last too).

15. To me, the Elvis impersonator would be what made it all worthwhile |
|
We settled on the camping trip because that place is really special to us but I think I'm going to insist on the Elvis impersonator for a vow renewal sometime down the line. :P

Since we are going to Vegas to celebrate anyway, I bet she'd go for the Elvis idea as a vow renewal. Thanks. :hi:
