know how you dintinguish between someone who's just in a pissy mood and someone who's out
to intentionally sell their agenda.

Some people wish to protect their identity and won't make a profile. The fact that one hasn't posted a profile makes you think possible troll/disruptor, but it could just be someone who doesn't want to give out information.
Myself I'm in the don't care column.
How can you tell if someone is having a bad day, well, that just takes time to get to know people, don't worry about it. If it were a fer real troll, congratulations for chasing it away.

and give themselves away very quickly. But there are a few clever ones with way too much free time on their hands that are able to rack up large post counts. Basically, if you suspect someone of being a troll, don't call them out on it. Debate them on the merits of their argument. If they say something that's a dead giveaway, like something homophobic, pro-Bush, anti-Democratic or the like, then hit the alert button. Let the mods make the decision. Most of the time the mods are really good about getting rid of them.
