12. Not to put too fine a point on it
I had suspicions along those lines.

He seems to figure that if he doesn't mind staying until 8:00 every night, why should anyone else mind?

3. You get overtime, right?
I hope so - that's the only thing that could possibly mitigate the annoyance.

5. Yes, thank goodness, but I have a long commute, and
My wife (House of Kewpie's) been working her two full-time jobs at home all day and needs a break! (10 months and 3.5 years!)

7. That is very irritating
I love bosses who don't seem to realize their employees DO have lives they want to return to.

And feel the stress leaving.

9. It's a dominance ploy
Bosses love to pull this shit simply because they know they can.

14. Yeah, dammit
My job description says "overtime as required," and he just loves "requiring" it at the drop of a hat.

I don't mind staying late when the work demands it, but when it seems like an arbitrary bit of psyops, it makes me nuts.

11. It's intentional.
Happens to me all the time.

I've learned to just try to enjoy the extra effort, hoping that it nets me a nice bonus or a pay increase. :)

It's either that or find a new job. Hope your day gets better fast.

17. Thanks -- that's something to hope for
Not much optimism for the bonus or pay raise, given recent history 'round the workplace, but hope springs eternal, I suppose...

I'm achieving catharsis by posting here, though, and I should be escaping in about five minutes.
