Squirrels are funny.
I like to put peanuts out on the patio (lanai) for the squirrels and other animals. I have a squirrel that will come and get them - and he usually follows a pattern of eating on while sitting on top of a lawn chair, eating another one while standing on top of the grill, eating another just hanging out on the cement, then taking a peanut and going off somewhere with it.

I love it when he (or she) sits on the lawn chair, because it's a rocking one, and in the wind the squirrel goes back and forth like the top of a boat mast.

Cool.

1. Yeah, really funny
They tore up my house to get in the attic, I repaired it and they tore it up again. They have shredded my house and when I walk outside and I am there, they look at me and laugh. I know they are laughing. My next step is slaughter. x(

3. I just caught one in a live aniimal trap this afternoon.
I have an old upright freezer on the back porch that I use for storing my beer brewing equipment because rodents can't easily get into it. Well naturally a packrat took up residence UNDER it and I have been fighting a succession of them for a while now. They had gotten wise to the snap traps so I switched to the have-a-heart and just offing them myself (I don't have-a-heart when it comes to rodents chewing up my shit and leaving their messes all over my house, sorry)

So I just caught a young rock squirrel. argghhh Not sure what I should do with it. They have been tormenting the dogs a lot lately and I know there are plenty more, but I am not sure I am up to dispatching the cute little guy. damn!

2. They are flat squirrelly sometimes
Some of the funniest action I've seen is watching them chase each other up, down and around tree trunks.

4. My mom used to feed the neighborhood squirrels peanuts.
They decided my little sister's toes looked like nuts and would chase her around the yard, while she screamed and I laughed.
I also used to chase her with the vacuum, and tell her our parents were dead, when I was babysitting.
She still likes me.

:P

34. I used to tell my younger sister that my parents were sick of her...
And wanted to put her in an orphanage. I think she finally forgave me, but every once in a while, I still hear about it.

7. last year i was putting out peanut for squirrels, but blue-jays would grab them and
take them to different hidey places. there the peanuts sat, the blue-jays would never come back for them. interseting behavior pattern to observe.

27. Similar story
I once saw a squirrel come along and bury a peanut in a lawn; he then departed the scene. Unbeknownst to him, a magpie had observed this, and once the squirrel was gone, the bird came over, dug up the peanut, and flew away with it. Magpies are pretty funny, but not at 5:00 AM outside the bedroom window.

We have become friends with our squirrel we call her Baby. She will actually come up to the window and door and tap on it when she wants some food.

10. I used to feed squirrels near the music building on campus back when I was in college
one of them got to trust me enough that she'd eat right out of my hand.
One day I only had enough money to get a burger and nothing else, so I didn't have any squirrel food to give away. I was eating, right where I usually sat, when I felt something tugging at my pants leg. I looked down... and there was that same squirrel, looking up at me, trying to get my attention.
I ended up finding a bit of the bun that didn't have burger grease on it to give her, but that was all I had. :P

30. I'm fairly certain she was pregnant too, because she kept getting a bigger and bigger tummy every
time I saw her for a little while, then I didn't see her for another little while.

Either that, or the fast food made her fat. :)

16. You know how most people consider these things pests, but I appreciate
them, especially while I was living at my grandmother's house for six years. She had an acre and a half of property as her backyard, and there would be deer and the occasional fox. Squirrels have always been cool with me...just watching them interact with each other.

My one uncle hand-feeds them..we call him the Squirrel Whisperer, because the things seem to trust him implicitly and have no fear of him at all.

26. right on :)
my husband's called me squirrel whisperer a lot!
I've only gotten them to eat from my hand 2 or 3 times though and that was years ago, now I've stopped trying, I just feed them all year, I've done it since 2001 so now I feel responsible for them all.

One of the only times I got them to take nuts from me the squirrel bit my finger real gently as it took the nut. I think it was testing me somehow, he just brushed his teeth over my skin, but it's an animal and I shouldn't project stuff like that on it.

there is a 3 legged squirrel that lives next to me. One of his front legs is missing. But even so, he don't take any crap. He will chatter with the best of them. He is not afraid of anything.

37. I watched one squirrel running from another squirrel
holding an entire piece of pizza in it's mouth. (It was almost as big as he was) and they really had a chase going on... across my lawn, across my neighbors lawn and completely back again.

One of the funniest things I've ever seen them do!
