Please! Help me "name the baby"... need a DU screen name for my husband...
Edited on Sat Sep-22-07 02:36 PM by Radio_Lady
My husband's first name is Al. Yeah, he likes Paul Simon's "Call Me Al." Short for Allen. We legally changed our last name and his first name in Probate Court in Massachusetts in 1973. He was given the birth name Alvin which my deceased mother-in-law must have thought was appropriate in 1934. But that was before the birth of Alvin the Chipmunk who lives on with his funny, silly, speeded-up recordings even until today. (BTW, new movie coming out with the Chipmunks later this year. Al has a first cousin named Alvin, but he lives in Florida and doesn't want us to send him family email letters... but I digress.)

Here are some suggestions:
Al the Audiophile (prefer this at this moment.)
Audiophile Al (sounds like a mouthful)
Radio Laddy (or alternate spelling)
Just a key stroke difference from my screen name Radio_Lady and easy to mistakefor one or the other. Sounds Scottish, which we're not.
Radio Laddie (sounds too much like a dog)

OK, for those of you who voted in the "AUDIOPHILE" survey and who didn't criticize my quickly pasted together verbiage or my inadequate personal characteristics (you know who you are), most people here know what the word means. Basically, a lover of sounds. It's an unusual word for sure, and it has something going for it. It's a homonym for AUDIO FILE -- words that sound the same but are spelled different. Can't beat that! If you're in radio.

So, I used to call him the Digital Devil, Gramps, Grandpa Al, and lots of other names. Yeah, and it's best that I don't share the things I call him when I YELL at him, like last week. But, NEVERMIND.............. we've made up and everything is fine today.

Al is 73 years young, a retired electrical engineer who migrated into mainframe computer sales and marketing for a bunch of years, but then morphed into a systems analyst and software engineer over the last years of his work life. He's also a very good writer and speaker.

This year, he is discovering the new world of digital photo processing as well as digital audio sound. He's busy a lot of the time with audio software and he's enjoying himself quite a bit. So, I've decided to ask him to be my occasional co-host on the audio show I do at Oregon Public Broadcasting. For some background, we used to do husband-and-wife radio shows back in the 1970s during the evening hours. Al even studied at Northeast Broadcasting School and for a year, worked for WARA in Attleboro, Massachusetts while selling virtually all the Main Street businesses on radio advertising. But he decided he wasn't making enough money in the radio business, and went back to sales and marketing hardware components to OEMs in the new computer world.

So, I have to call him something besides late for dinner.

Any quick suggestions?

Thanks in advance.

1. I like the audiophile one.
Since I am one. :D :D

I also like giving him the name "Call Me Al," if he really likes the Paul Simon song so much. I know seeing that name would make me, anyway, smile.

:hi:

66. While I like the name, too...
...I would point out that there are still many in the audiophile community who would fight to the death for the notion that "no true audiophile would want anything to do with digital sound!!!

70. My goodness! Who would have thunk it? BTW, I sold or gave away all my vinyl records
Edited on Tue Sep-25-07 10:03 PM by Radio_Lady
when we moved from Boston to Oregon. Some of those vinyl records were wonderful -- I had a mint, unopened, preview copy of The Sound of Music with cast photos and signed by Christopher Plummer and Mary Tyler Moore, plus other wonderful ones. But when our Sylvania record player died, it looked like we'd never be able to hear them again. I remember calling Sylvania and being told there were no more stylus (needles) (plural?) for the arm. Who imagined that vinyl records would come back into vogue.

Now I still have a collection of cassette tapes that I refuse to give away! I think I have about 500 - 1,000. Once in a while, I weed out a few, but I keep most of them. My husband and I still have cars that have cassette players in them, as well as CD players. When those cars go, well, we'll see about that.

Some CDs too, but I'm still at least a generation back.

When I pass away, I want them all donated to the Arts & Music high school in our district.

Well, that takes gender identification a little too far for me.

I've been called Mother, Mom, Ma, Ellen (My three stepkids use my first name), Bonus Mother (that is actually something devised by www.bonusfamilies.com which has a good thought behind it, but not in common practice) Stepmonster -- but never DUDE!

That's a new one on me.

Thanks for sharing, ah... DUDE!

I did find this interesting web site for Digital Geezers.

http://www.nextexit.com/dap/geezer.html

Regrettably, the man who did this, Dana Atchley, of San Francisco, died unexpectedly in the year 2000. Damn it, the good die young, and I never got to meet him. His site has not been updated in a while. Very belated condolences to his wife and children.

Let's all keep our thinking caps on.

BTW, the unnamed spouse is away today Saturday, Sept. 22 working on a mentoring program. He won't be home until 5:00 PM.

Now I gotta go swimming with my grandson.

So if I stop answering your posts, you have two options 1)Sing hallelulah 2)Come back later to see what's here.

Peace, Love and Happiness,

Edited on Tue Sep-25-07 10:20 PM by Radio_Lady
Audio Al -- and when he's on the radio with me -- "Audio Al, your radio pal."

That'll work.

In some typefaces, it looks like Audio A1 (like the steak sauce A-one)

I do like DigitalDevil or DigitalDarlin', because his photography is exceptional, but I didn't think that would work with the listening public. Please note: Our service has been directed to the blind, disabled, and senior citizens since its inception.
