WTF is up with Cyndi Lauper?
Did she come back from eightiesland under my nose and I didn't notice? And what's up with "Time After Time"? Live the song, right? I loved her every bit as much as the next Durannie, but that was in 1985. Why not leave it there? It was overplayed enough to last me 40 years. Did she get sick of wrestling? Why can't we just listen to the original if we want to hear it? And why drag Sarah McLaughlin into it? What's up with that?

3. *LOL* Honey!!!
I loved that song when it came out, it's just that it was overplayed. So hearing it again with S.M. threw me. Really kinda threw me, plus, my feet have been killing me from carrying around ladies' dresses.

"Have a nice day."

    :loveya:

2. She's been on Broadway
in the Three Penny Opera.
She is doing just fine.
Why do you have a problem with her?

4. Wow. I don't have a problem with Cyndi Lauper.
I simply wondered what possessed her to reemerge with that song when it saw its heyday in 1985 (I think it was 1985, I can't be certain).

7. I didn't know she had gone back to her 80s stuff
I thought she had carved a new career path for herself with her Broadway work. She really has a good voice. She's also supposed to be a really nice down-to-earth person.

10. She does!
That was my "beef". I guess my sense of humor is a little strange to people at times. We have music playing at the store at work, and when I heard the new "Time After Time" I felt a little "off". The eighties really WERE its own decade, and hearing something like that redone in 2007 was like being in the Twilight Zone.

:D

5. I always thought she was just another 80s pop singer
Then I saw her singing with Patti LaBelle one day on TV and I was blown away by what a good singer Cyndi Lauper really is. She does a lot of stuff now, but she isn't high profile. She had her True Colors Tour this year:

The first annual True Colors Tour 2007 is a music tour created by Cyndi Lauper. The tour stopped at fifteen cities between June 8 and June 30, 2007. The Human Rights Campaign received $1 from each ticket sold throughout the tour.

The program benefited HRC and other organizations that provide support to the GLBT community and to the straight friends and family who love them, including PFLAG Parents, Families and Friends of Lesbians and Gays and The Matthew Shepard Foundation.

The True Colors Tour 2007 featured Cyndi Lauper, Debbie Harry, Erasure, and The Dresden Dolls, with Margaret Cho as MC. Other artists and special guests who appeared for specific tour locations included The Gossip, Jeffree Star, Rosie O'Donnell, The Cliks, the Indigo Girls, Cazwell, Amanda Lepore and Rufus Wainwright.

8. That's exactly what I'm saying.
People don't need to be fed the old sure-shot hit. The point I'm trying to make is that she has has so much going for her, and the overplaying has corporatized that song. It's a classic (if overplayed then) and her newer music should be brought to light.

I think it is a good song, but I am guessing that they are playing it on the radio again?

18. I saw the True Colors show when it was in Chicago
Cyndi Lauper was simply fabulous...combining activism with a great show. She may do another one next year...and I sure hope she does. I applaud her for organizing the tour.

As has been mentioned, she's appeared on Broadway and has released some nice albums over the past few years.

I don't quite understand the OP's problem with Cyndi Lauper.

This thread should never have been taken that seriously. I take my sense of humor for granted, and I've forgotten how long I've been off DU.

21. How was Debbie Harry?
I have loved her from day one. She is also huge supporter of the GLBT community and I know she really pushed this tour. And even though I come across as some sort of bigoted ass sometimes, I support my gay brothers and sisters too.

I don't think Sugar Smack has a problem with Lauper, I think she was wondering about the song.

28. She was great
She did all of her songs from her latest cd. No Blondie stuff. I know she's a huge supporter of the GLBT community and I'm sure that if there is another True Colors tour next year, she'll be a part of the tour.

6. Cyndi Lauper was one of the few pop stars who should have been a major star.
True talent in that one - wonderful voice, great musician that can actually sing on key and doesn't need to be engineered to sound good.

She also created herself, and wasn't the product of a bunch of suits sitting around a table, like Britney, Paula Abdul, N'Stink, and the rest of those musical whores. SHE is actually creative; I've long thought of her as a 1980s female version of David Bowie, but with a bit of Americana thrown in and not quite so self-consciously an artiste.

I have always been sad that she didn't produce more music than she did.

12. Well, she was a serious influence on me in HS, and I
haven't heard much about her since. THAT song seemed way too overplayed though. We loved it at first, and then it was overkill. I know it wasn't her doing as much as corporate people using their imaginations *lol*.
