3. My 2 kids seem to never shut the fuck up
they are 6 and 7 and I swear to gawd, they talked to me all day today without coming up for air. I know I had a terrible hangover and my ability to cope was compromised but I haven't had a moment of peace until they fell asleep... Shhhhhh!

And yes -- I have met adults like you describe... It is scary.

7. Use Calvin Coolidge's advice
"If you keep dead still they'll run down in three or four minutes." Works for me!

11. I swear I tried that! Finally, "I said I gotta go to the bathroom", just
to get out of there, but she said "ooooohhhh, I gotta go too". I couldn't get out of that situation to save my life. At least without being bitchy. I deserve a cookie or something!

:P

8. yep
My ex-SIL. Poor thing is bi-polar. She was really bad this summer. She would come into my mom's house, with the current crisis of the day, and proceed to get uncomfortably close in my personal space, and start to spew. She had that classic flight of ideas, and forced, pressed, urgency, with the delivery. She was loud, boring and repetitive. She'd tell her story and turn right around and tell it over again, like I didn't get it the first time. Man, don't remind me. Ewwwweeeh. It IS hard to leave 'em hanging, though.

13. you hit a sensitive area with me.

I usually talk too much when I go to a social gathering, mainly because I get out about two times a year and I spend most of my days alone. I guess it's out of loneliness. I've stopped doing that though, because someone was so brutally outspoken to me about shutting the fuck up already, that I say just about nothing now.

I think it was nice of you to have stayed with her and wasn't mean. Trust me, you may not have had the night you probably wanted and deserved, but you most definetely gave someone else an ear that they probably needed. At least they won't go home feeling more lonely.

16. I have met this gal before and she wasn't so talkative.
Edited on Sat Sep-22-07 11:33 PM by Shell Beau
But in general, I don't care for chatty kind of people. Just my preference. I don't like spastic people either (in general). It is just different types of personalities and all of that!

This gal wasn't nervous! She was totally drunk. But still, I couldn't find that mean place in me to get up and leave. But I don't apologize for not really liking chatter-boxes!

19. sounds like two completely different situations
that we were in. Agreed that diff. kinds of personalities played a role in your situation. Some people can't stand bubbly people in the morning either! LOL. Hat's off to ya though, still.. for being kind! It matters.

14. Uh, yeah. My MIL. She can literally go on for two or three hours
without getting a freaking clue that she might be - how shall is say? - BORING AS HELL? One of her monologues included a story about one of her sisters (they're all talkers) whose DIL interrupted a conversation because she had to take a pee. The sister thought it was the height of rudeness. I was thinking, "Been there, done that." Seriously: this woman beats anybody I have ever known for verbal diarrhea. I ain't gonna miss it.

 :) At least you're almost away from it. My MIL is still going strong, and I'm still married. The urge to put my hand over her mouth or shove a pair of socks in it is stronger than ever. :P

15. My dear Shell Beau!
I know people like that, and sometimes you just have to be rude!

I break in, and say...gotta go....Bye!

I get so if they call, I won't answer the phone...

I have no problem interrupting either...

Life is too damn short to deal with this crap!

Sorry, sweetie...

22. My next-door neighbor is a non-stop talker, He cannot stand
dead air. I think many of his stories are the plots to TV shows he watched just hours before. I have caught him in at least one lie. No doubt there are many others just waiting to be exposed.

He came over claiming to have been infested by brown recluse spiders recently. I said he was "full of shit." He took umbrage at my remarks. He hasn't been around lately. I do not miss him.

:yoiks: She's a nonstop yakker. :( She's a real downer anyway, but it's very difficult to be around her for more than five minutes. I stay away as much as I can.

26. You must have met my sister.
My younger stepson can't stop talking either. When we have family dinners, I try to seat them across from each other. That way they can yak away without worrying about offending anyone.

27. Yes, I have a dear friend - love him to death - who talks constantly about nothing.
If it's a conversation about something specific, he does really well - he's very bright (I wouldn't hang with dumb people).

But when there isn't conversation, he feels the need to fill that empty space with any drivel that comes to mind - random reports on concerts he's been to, or stand up routines, or movies, or his family... and usually of no substance whatsoever.

Even subtle hints like me reading a book, playing the guitar, or walking into the other room, he never gets the hint to be quiet.

Love the guy, but I can only handle two days with him; and thankfully, that's about all we can ever squeeze out of our schedules for him to come to visit. When he leaves, I'm completely exhausted.
