PERSONALLY, I'm aware that a lot of sizes are built to stretch. I have an awareness of my own size and realize it can acommodate other sizes as well. I buy them in packs or off the rack but I DO NOT TRY THEM ON first.

Catalyst of thread: Thongs, etc, found hanging on the "Go back" bar in the fitting room where I work.

came out. It's against state law for women to try on underwear but we'd have a insane amount of women who never had worn a thong try to sneak them in the fitting room and argue with us because they had no awareness of their size.

Few customers want to think that the undies have been worn next to other peoples' nekkid nether regions even if the customer has enough sense to launder new undies before wearing them. Having policies against trying them on or returning them out of the package after purchase is probably good for store sales, outside of specialty lingerie stores at least.

I guess I'm just too darn logical and look at things from that point of view rather than the knee-jerk "ick" reaction. After all, armpits can be pretty darn gross and are probably on average grosser than the average crotch but no one objects to trying on shirts. Though I really have no desire to do a study on the subject. :P

They bought panties in various stores, tried to return them and were successful. And in many cases, the same panties were put right back on the shelves in the store. This is in a state where it's illegal to try on underwear, and I think also to return it. IIRC, one of the stores was Victoria's Secret. Eeeuuuw!

Not to freak anybody out or anything, but I worked retail for years, and I will tell you that fitting rooms are not as private as you might think. One Department Store I worked at had security peepholes into ALL the fitting rooms. The stock boys would get busted fairly routinely when they'd camp out by the spy holes into the lingerie fitting rooms...

I will NEVER try anything on unless it is an absolute necessity.
