1. Without reading all of that thread
and off the top of my head I'd have to say, for the NASCAR crowd:
Be a registered Democrat

3. Not true.
Lifelong NASCAR fan here, and lifelong Dem. Wouldn't bother me in the least if there were Dems among the drivers.

6. I never said that. What I'm saying is that not all NASCAR fans ARE
Republican.

Stop stereotyping them. It gets tiresome, really.

You don't like NASCAR, that's cool. But stereotyping the drivers and the fans is just as bad as stereotyping any group.

NASCAR is dominated by rednecks -- you know that so don't try and defend the whole sport.

9. Don't tell me to get a grip. I'm just fine, thank you.
I'm not defending the whole sport; I'm saying, stop stereotyping every person who is a fan. That what it seems you are doing.

... Looked to me that the person was making an *aggregate* statement, which may or may not apply to each SPECIFIC person.

30. Have you BEEN to a NASCAR race?
I am NOT saying that EVERY person who likes NASCAR is a Republican or a redneck. I am saying it is not the place to go if you want to engage the audience in a anti war, pro Democratic rally. The tolerance level for your form of politics at a NASCAR race is not at its peak. They have country stars perform at the races not Green Day. They are not mainly comprised of Harvard Law grads - it is just a fact. It is the same with Rodeo. I grew up around rodeo, race cars, red necks and from the South too. I have 2 cousins who are named, on their birth certificates, Bubba.... I am not saying this shit to get you ticked off. I rode my horse in the town parade in the friggin '60's and '70's---- Of course there are exceptions - I'm sure there are some Harvard Law grads who love NASCAR - They do not make up the base. Just like, if you go to a Polo field, you are not going to find a crowd of Bubba's drinkin' Budweiser. It is the way it is.

If you think it would be prudent for you to wear an Impeach The Chimp T-shirt and go to a NASCAR race then I hope you have some friends who can talk you out of that form weekend fun.

31. I've been to three NASCAR races, in fact.
And in fact, I HAVE talked about Bush -- in a negative way. People with me wanted me to hush up, and I said no, there is still free speech in this country. Other people around me nodded in agreement to what I said.

Frankly, though, when I go to a race, or a baseball game or whatever, politics is usually near the bottom of my list, not because I'm afraid, but because I go to see races or ball games. I don't really care what their politics are; I care how they race or play.

I realize that in the main, NASCAR fans are more to the right than to the left, but again, I object to wholesale stereotyping of any group. If one goes in for the "NASCAR fans are......" schtick, then one cannot object if someone else says, "Blacks are....." or "Hispanics are...." or whatever. I'm not saying specifically that you are doing that, but there are a lot of people on this board who would throw a fit (justifiably so) over stereotyping of a racial group, but think nothing of slamming the crap out of NASCAR fans, or whatever particular group they don't happen to agree with.

You may think this is a silly argument, but I don't. Taking a group of people, and labeling them as being essentially all the same is a dangerous game to play, I believe.

You don't have to agree with me; I'm just stating my views.

4. By selling out I mean doing something purely for financial gain
The harsh reality is that being openly gay is rarely a shrewd career move for public figures in any field.

15. I, too, have noticed some creeping GDistic thingies.
But back to the topic, we did see earlier in the year when a driver made a snide comment about the ubiquitous "debris on the track" yellow flag that happens in the last 5 laps of every race allowing everyone to come together. NASCAR officials were "SHocked!"

NASCAR drivers don't have one square inch of their body or their cars that's not plastered with a corporate logo of some kind. That's the ultimate sell-out to me.

20. True, but in football stadiums and baseball fields, there are ads
plastered all over them. Only real difference is that the players aren't wearing the sponsors logos.

32. NASCAR Drivers: 59 % Republican, 0 % Democratic
Taken from a recent Sports Illustrated article. I'm not saying that all NASCAR fans are Republican, but this survey clearly showed that none identified themselves as Democrat.

Heck, even professional golf (David Duval) and tennis (Agassi and McEnroe) had token Democrats.

I'm not saying that we should like/dislike a sport because of its participants political leanings. But it's quite hard for me to care about a sport where no driver will admit, in a private survey, to being a Democrat.

http://sportsillustrated.cnn.com/2007/racing/06/27/nascar.survey0702/2.html

Republican, Democrat or Independent?
Republican.................. 59%
Democrat.................. 0%
Independent.................. 18%

33. Get a Whole Foods or 7th Generation sponsorship
Decals from liberal enterprises ought to do it. :-)

Would definitely make the crowds wince. Because you know, if you follow a certain car/driver, you must also wear their sponsors' gear.

to do a couple of donuts, then lay down more rubber that scrawls out the word "Dunkin'!" beneath them, facing the stands, and then carry on with the race.

edited to add: but now that I think about it, that would probably only get hoots of approval and send a wave of people straight to the doughnut booth.
