1. ...and almost more TD passes than any other.
I'm happy for the Packers. 3-0, so I hope they have a hell of a season. It'd be nice to see them go to another Super Bowl before he retires.

3. Johnny Unitas...
For that matter, Favre (as good has he is) still has only won one NFL title. How many did Bart Starr lead the Packers to? Five?

12. That's my pick, too. I would take him any day over Favre.
Namath, Staubach, Bradshaw, Montana...I would choose one of these guys before Favre.

11. Yeah, that's the guy I'd pick,
I'm too young to really know about Namath, Unitas etc., Never winning a Superbowl knocks Tarkenton out of it for me (as much as it pains this lifelong Vikings fan to say. So of the QBs I've seen I'd have to go with Montana.

Is Favre a Hall of Famer, absolutely--has he managed to destroy the reamainder of the leagure consistently for what seemed like a thousand years AND won a mitt full of rings? No.

I've never been a big career-stats kind of guy, but how does Steve Young compare to Favre?

13. Young is no Favre by a long shot. nt.
Favre will hold NFL records for TD's, completions, wins and if he plays one more season, most like yards. 3 time MVP and a Super Bowl. He has made a case to be in the discussion. Young is not.

15. Yeah, that sounds about right, like I said I've never really paid much
attenetion to career stats; the only time I know who holds which record is when they start talking about who is poised to eclipse them. For example I was kind of surprised to see Tarkenton as far up the lists as he really was.

With Steve Young, well, I'd grown heartily tired of the 49ers, and when Montana retired I was hoping we could get a shakeup in the league--but to have the baton passed from starter to back up and have the dynasty continue for a few more years, well, it was kind of a drag! I think that colors my perceptions somewhat.

Do you happen to know where Roger Staubach falls in this ranking--it seemed like Dallas ruled the universe when I really started paying attention to football in the mid 70s, but I'm not sure if it was all because of Staubach or just a complete team.

14. young has a higher career passing rating
but then, he has the highest ever. of course, he cut his teeth in the USFL and backing up Montana, so he didn't have a few seasons of growing pains, sprung full grown from the head of Zeus, you might say (even Manning, with the highest single season rating, is weighted down by his first three years, and has yet to average out above Young.) you see the older player effect, along with the system effect, in people like Kurt Warner (3).

If I had a good team built together, and needed a QB to take us to the next, championship level, I'd take Montana or Young. If I was putting together a sandlot team and needed a gunslinger, I'd take Favre.

16. Here's a question, I never got to watch a lot of Dan Fouts, was
he a straight up gunslinger, as his TD numbers would suggest, or more all around, but hampered by being on an unbalanced Chargers team?

I'll admit to having a bit of a soft spot for the Chargers--the Vikings didn't play them enough for me to really get a grudge going against them, and their games usually turned into track meets which are always fun for a disinterested (emotionally) fan to watch.

20. The Super Bowl criteria
While I agree that a QB's ability to lead his team to the promised land is a big part of greatness, let's not make it a litmus test.

Can anyone seriously assert that Trent Dilfer is a better quarterback than Jim Kelley?

21. And to think of all the time I spent teasing my best friend's sister for having a crush on him
back in junior high. She always denied it, and thought he was stuck up.

"He thinks he's so hot just 'cause he plays quarterback. He's no good, he's only quarterback because his daddy's the coach!"
