I'm catching a cold

I woke up in the middle of the night with that "ahem" feeling in my throat. That's how 95% of my colds start.

I don't want to be sick.

1. I'm in the middle of a rotten cold.

Haven't had one since last year at EXACTLY this time. I work in a hospital, the kids go back to school, get sick, the parents bring it to work with them, and then I'm sick. Every damned year. BLERGH!

Mine starts with the "ahem" too. Then sneezing. Then two days of a head filled with snot. And then the most fun part of all - the whole thing moves to my chest and sets up shop for a week. That's where I am now.

2. I'm at the tail end of one

If you ARE catching a cold I hope it's like mine was - extremely quick. It only lasted three days.

3. My late father, when he was catching a cold, would slice up a clove garlic and

eat it on saltines.

He swore by that preventive measure.

4. Temperature changes get me every time

One week it was mid 80's, the next barely 70(low 50's in the morning), then the next up in the 80's again.

Colds aren't that bad. It gives me an excuse to be lazy(don't need one, but it helps). Plus you get the deep Barry White voice in the morning.

7. Came down with one within 2 hours of getting home from our trip

Had to come in today after being off most of last week but I feel like crap.
The scratchy throat is how mine all begin too. Hope yours doesn't last long

8. It's everywhere--I just got over mine

It was a minor one. Started with an "itchy nose" (that's been my signal for the past few years) and then--the usual icky symptoms. I was surprised I got over it within a week, as I was getting NO sleep--MG Jr. started out by throwing up two nights in a row, which segued into the first case of croup he's ever had in his life (he's nearly 4). Now he's got the cold, achooing snot all over the place. It's like the first chapter of The Stand within a three-foot diameter of him.

Since last Thursday I've been getting a constant reminder of the BAD part of the cooler weather I love so much... :(

10. When I get that feeling, I start taking the Zicam zinc tablets.

They reduce the severity and length of the cold. They work for me, but your mileage my vary.
