Why the hell isn't Grossman benched?
This reminds me of Cowher sticking by Kordell Stewart. C'mon Lovie, let him go.

6. Romo is the future
Edited on Mon Sep-24-07 10:42 AM by JoDog
I'm a Bears fan, but Romo played for my alma mater (Eastern Illinois University--he was a freshman when I was a senior, and I saw him take some snaps late in games there), so I've kept an eye on his career. He has a Brett Favre-like knack for turning nothing into something and making things happen. If nothing else, he proves that great players can come from colleges outside the Big 10, Pac 10, etc.

The Bears deserved to lose last night. They need to rethink the QB situation and fast.

9. Haven't been able to listen
to The Score, but he deserves it. At least when Kyle Orton screwed up, he had a good excuse and showed a capacity to learn from his mistakes. It seems that every other week Grossman keeps making the same mistakes, over and over. Grossman has no excuses left, at least not with this gal. Eventually, you have to stop saying, "Well, the offense isn't just one player. There's plenty of blame to go around." Maybe, but if there's no leadership and commitment improvement in a key post like QB, nothing else is going to matter. There's nothing for the offense to form around right now.

An example from the other side of the ball. Last season, Brian Urlacher had no sacks. Zip. Zero. In one of the leading measures of a linebacker, he came up empty. But he was all over the field otherwise, helping make plays, blocking for other players so they could make sacks, still providing an essential backbone to the D. The result--the Bears defense dominated like no one's business. Leadership is leadership, and Urlacher managed to help get things done. Grossman isn't showing the same qualities.

And Urlacher's sack drought is over--he punched Romo's ticket a couple of times last night. :)

3. Why didn't they go out and get a decent backup?
And no Griese doesn't count. Sorry, but his name wasn't Griese he wouldn't have been an NFL qb.

16. Griese was good in college. I thought he would be better.
I think he's a smart QB and they keep him around because of his experience and coaching skills and knowledge of the game.

But face it, Lovie is a genius at everything but picking QBs. Or coaching them, maybe. Grossman can be dazzlingly good at times, and it's hard to let someone like that go, when you feel like all he needs is one good adjustment and he'll be great. A lot of QBs have had long careers being just on the border of having what it takes. Aside from Rich Gannon for a couple of years, they rarely seem to make it, but they are heard to give up on, I guess.

BTW, this Cowboy fan loves him so Lovie for not benching Grossman! Although, to be fair, Anthony Henry might have liked to intercept Griese, too.

8. As a Gator
Grossman was really good under the tight reigns of Steve Spurrier. Once Spurrier left, we got what you see...flashes of brilliance combined with depths of incompetance. Those flashes sometimes blind coaches to overlooking the bad, maybe thinking he'll improve.

You should have seen him under Spurrier though...WOW!

10. I remember his college career. Apparently a large part of that was Spurriers system.
Grossman has got to go.

11. I think it was mostly having a great QB coach
that also scared the hell out of him. That is one boy who needs structure, fear, discipline, and detail coaching.
