Talk me out of quitting my job
The old technology cannot handle the capacity.

There is only one new technology that will.

Management has placed one roadblock after another to the new technology because they can't be bothered to learn what it's all about.

They've called yet another meeting.

I'm ready to walk.

No, I can't go into details. Take those premises and run with it.

Pros:

enough of this shit

Cons:

It'll affect my pension.
I'll be low man at the new job.
I'll have to retrain.

1. I'm in the same boat.
I have one relative in support (who even suggested doing what I had thought!) and I've not told anyone else what I had thought.

Your management is strange. Mine thinks the new systems will save on the cost of horrible support employees.

3. Seconded. That's a good response.
Of course, holding out is the best, but if/when the time comes, it is best for management to kick people out the door. They deserve the work. :)

6. Maybe I can talk them into early retirement
But it's a couple years too early.

8. Yep. And if you need justification, blame the incompetent management.
'Cause they are to blame.

Is there anything worse than a bad boss, or a collection of bad bosses? I think not. That kills more American business than almost anything.

4. Same Boat
But I have decided to hang in there (and attempt to not get upset about ridiculous management decisions) for the time being. Have a feeling that by the time this administration is done, just having a job will be a blessing.

5. Don't Quit
The job market is really whacky right now. Don't quit until you find something else. Are you an IT person? If so, take solace in the fact that I have a BS in IT and never even got a job in that field ($37,000 worth of student loans!!!) and work in the legal field (eeew!). You know what's even worse? I don't even have an internet connection at work and you think you have it bad. I've been looking for another job and going through the usual process. Not much happening at least in the area I live in with jobs. At the next meeting bring up the need for the new technology and have facts ready to support your argument. All you can do is try. Don't get disgruntled, just grunt at the meeting! Good luck to you.

11. There's a place in town with some ads up
Not sure I want to work there 'cause I'm not sure I'd fit in, but right now I'd work at Home Depot just for the vague chance of occasionally talking to somebody who actually know waht they're talking about.

7. Give it a few weeks/months thought. No need to make any sudden moves.

9. Bite the bullet!
Or let them get rid of you, as someone else said but the job market sucks right now.
Has sucked since 2001!! Be careful! Very, very careful! Find a work around.

10. I may not be able to talk you out of it.
If your job is making you so miserable that you are bringing that misery home, then I'd actually advise you to quit. If, that is, it's actually bad enough to give up your pension. Remember, there's bullshit at every job.
