Opinions on "Grindhouse" release on two separate DVDs?
As a huge fan of Quentin Tarantino, I was sorry to miss seeing "Grindhouse" in a theater.

To my chagrin, the distributors have decided to release the film as two separate DVDs, "Death Proof" and Rodriguez's film about the zombies, both as expanded and extended editions.

My question is, if you saw Grindhouse, is it worth buying both of these DVDs?

I was tempted to boycott purchasing either one, because this is probably an attempt to compensate for the fact that "Grindhouse" did very poorly at the box office. Separating the two 90 minute films into two separate DVDs would force us to pay $40 or more dollars for the entire feature.

To summarize, I'm eager, especially to see Tarantino's film, but very annoyed by the fissure of the movie into two separate DVDS.

Thoughts and opinions appreciated.

1. weinstein company is triple dipping
Edited on Mon Sep-24-07 08:20 PM by sundog
the company is awful imo, not necessarily the films they release

they want fans to buy both dvd's now (with bonus "extras" disc which could have easily fit on a single)

from what i understand, neither will have the mock previews featured in the theatrical release

then they will issue both films plus the previews next summer... triple dip

i thought "death proof" was amazing... it's a love or hate film

haven't seen "planet terror" yet

15. primate!
how's is going man?

yeah, i can't wait to see "planet terror"

people have been complaining "death proof" is too "wordy" - but i think that's what makes it good... i watched it again last night, so well done

speaking of zombies, romero's releasing "diary of the dead"

he financed it on his own with a handful of producers... going back to his "indie roots" theoretically... weinsteins picked it up for distribution

premiered in toronto earlier this month... can't wait to see it :D

:hi:

16. It's not that Death Proof was too wordy...
It's that it seemed like it was trying to hard to be Pulp Fiction, in terms of dialogue. Not to say I didn't like Death Proof, it was super fun. Planet Terror was just more badass.

And it's going well, goo to see you around!

2. The fake trailers between the two movies were brilliant
hope they're included on both DVDs.

I LOVED Death Proof. I'm not a big fan of horror films so personally I'd have preferred to skip that one, but it definitely had it's moments and if you like horror films you should get both. What about renting them first and deciding if you want to buy them later?

3. Appreciate your thoughts
I'll probably give in and get "Death Proof." People are saying good things about it. But I do have a chip on my shoulder about the way this is being released.

6. Do you know, regarding "Kill Bill"
Did Tarantino ever release an extended version of KB with commentary and edited scenes? Just curious, if you know.

7. Maybe`
Quentin has been busy making his war film. But I sure wish he would pay more attention to his DVD releases--and I wish David Lynch would too, for that matter.

5. "Grindhouse" was a HUGE bomb.
The Weinsteins are trying to recoup their investment.

I'm sorry I missed it in the theaters. I've heard that "Planet Terror" is the much better of the two.

9. it may be worth it if they put in the "extended" footage
i hear they cut out some of the storyline in Death Proof. I saw it in the theater and it seemed like the 2nd half of the story took a big leap from the 1st half, plot-wise....kind of unfinished.

But i dunno, the spoof trailers were hilarious. It would suck if they didn't put those in.

18. Why bother buying the DVDs?
Rent. There's always Netflix and Blockbuster. I never buy DVDs because after I have seen them once, I don't want to watch them again.
