Anybody know anything about DXing? |

I want to buy a scanner capable of picking up military channels. Any suggestions? I'm looking at Yeasu and ICOM. Portable or desk-top.

Let's see...
short-range stuff is all run over the Single Channel Ground and Airborne Radio System (SINCGARS), which is a frequency hopper--and you don't have the hop sets. You can ALSO plug your voice scrambler into it.
long-range Army comms are either satellite (encrypted) or troposcatter (also encrypted, and your SO would kill you for putting a tropo antenna on the roof because that work is up around 4GHz to 5GHz).
OTOH, chasing shortwave broadcast stuff is great fun.
