Oh, somebody save me from myself!!!!
So, I went online to make a payment on my modest credit card. Just enough to keep good with the credit companies until I get my overtime-enhanced, non-rent-due paycheck next week.

And my credit limit has gone from $500 to $2,000 in the past month.

My head swam with visons of shopping for things I need in my new apartment, like bookshelves. Getting a USB hard drive to start backing up my PC's files. A microwave oven.

Somebody please slap my modest sense of fiscal responsibilty back to awakeness before I become a slave to the credit card companies again!!!

1. Tear up your card and forget your account number!!!!
My girlfriend was out of work for a few months, and now we're almost 10k in debt. And I had spent years cleaning up my finances. Now it's shot and I have constant stress headaches.

DON'T DO IT!!!!!!!!! IT'S NOT WORTH IT!!!!!!!

3. Alas, too late...
I've booked a cruise to Italy!

Ah... well, since I'm all divorced and stuff now (no spendthrift wifey) I might be okay. The initial shock was big, but a few hours on the DU has sucessfully distracted me. Now I'm worrying about Chavez nationalizing Olive Garden...

:-)

It is a good thing I don't recreationally shop, that's all! I work nights, and during the day my inertia keeps my ass glued to the armchair and on the DU!

Hmmmm.... Grovelbot may give me a call soon after reading this thread...

4. Back when I finally had my medical bills paid off
and I was ready to get a card again, I got a starter card with a $700 limit. I didn't want or need more than that.

2 months later they increased my limit to $8,000. My thought was, :wtf:.

Why, why, why would any sane and rational lending institution increase the credit limit that much on a starter card for someone just coming off of high medical debts? I even bought the extra insurance in case I become fully disabled and have to stop working. You'd think that would be a very loud and clear second warning.

Modern banking and finance, based on debt, really makes the mind boggle.

5. Whoa...
Mine started at $300. Got it just before my married life went to hell, kept the card all for me. Bumped up to $500 about a year later. Jumped up to $2 grand sometime in the last month! And I have a bankrupcy on my record.

But I've been making all my monthly payments, so I guess that counts for something.

They're probably trying to get me in trouble again. :tinfoilhat: Well, I'll ride the overtime pony as long as it holds, then I'll probably have to go get a part-time job to keep my day occupied.

But right now, hell, I make probably three times the wage of a likely part-time job when I'm in overtime! And I don't have to deal with any customers! :woohoo:

8. I have a shredder just for that purpose
Oh, look, yet another offer from some bank I've never heard of. ***shred***

I was doing a half-dozen a week before I moved!

If I had applied instead, I'd be able to buy a Porche on plastic by now!

7. If you must buy, buy used.
But better not to buy at all.

Or look for hand-me downs. All the cheapness of used, with the addition cheapness of FREE! :)

9. Cut up your credit card. I am in a Chapter 13 bankruptcy
right now because of credit card debt.

11. I had a credit card years ago. And every time I hit the limit they would up
my credit. I cut up my Bay/Easton's card and saved myself a whole lotta grief.

12. Amateurs!
Y'all ain't nuthin' till you catch up with me and DH--our Bank of America MasterCard credit limit was just upped to $17,600. (And the answer is NO WAY are we even pretending to consider what we can do with that!)

We owe plenty on our debt consolidation loan. They ain't fooling us. We just pretend the credit limit doesn't exist.
