King of the Hill fans/viewers: - In 11 years has the show ever explained Dale and Nancy?
as far as how they ever hooked up to begin with? It's obviously not because of Joseph.

Just one of the useless cultural reference things I've wondered about when watching the show.

1. i seem to vaguely remember something about that
for some reason i have a picture of balding Dale with long hair and a Good Times van...but i have no idea why.

Joseph is definately John Redcorn's kid, though.

2. I don't think they ever have
I'm sure he liked the look of her what nots and when Nancy and Dale
got back together, she actually loved him and said he was fun.

3. The episode where they rekindled their relationship was perfect
KOTH is one of the few cartoons that actually has soul and heart and it's to FOX's credit that someone on their programming staff supports it enough to keep renewing it.

4. I hope they always do
Every evening when I get home from work, I catch the syndicated KOTH. If we have to stop somewhere along the way and I have to miss it, it just ain't right. Sometimes Peggy is tough to take, but it's still possible to feel compassion for her.

6. My wife isn't a fan of the show but she grew up in Texas and will smile at a familiar reference
Edited on Wed Sep-26-07 02:25 PM by Mike Daniels
I once asked her how close it captured the essence of Texas (people, mannerisms, etc) and she said it nailed it pretty well.

I actually find Kahn more likable than Peggy as odd as that may sound. For all his bluster and arrogance he's not too far removed from Hank in his actions/beliefs.

7. I live in Texas
so I get tickled at some of the references. Kahn is definitely more image conscious than Hank, but no more so than Peggy. He's like a melding of both Hank and Peggy. I think it's funny that they like to snoop on the neighbors and catch them in "hillbilly domestic violence".

My husband thinks it's funny that I absolutely hated "Beavis and Butthead" but love "King of the Hill".

9. KOTH is a documentary about Texas.
just like Hee Haw was a documentary about Oklahoma.

And Hank always takes Bobby to Whataburger to discuss things. Whataburger is GOOD!!!

And Luann Platter is the name of a special plate they serve at Luby's Cafeteria with smaller (i.e. normal) portions on it. Luby's used to have a little girl mascot named LuAnn.

I'm convinced that Arlen is really Arlington, TX, near Dallas, since Bobby goes to Tom Landry Middle School (and I ain't no sports fan).

Arlington is where Six Flags and the boondoggle sports stadium (Rangers)that Shrub got in a sweetheart deal, are.

And I love the name of the paper "The Arlen Bystander". Total apathy.

Almost as good as "The Daily Disappointment" -- what Frosty Troy called "The Daily Oklahoman".

10. Absolutely

Hubby is convinced that Arlen is Garland. Whataburger is the absolute BEST!!! The Casa Linda apartments kill me because my parents live in Casa Linda. I've had many, many LuAnn Platters - they don't have them anymore. At least not at the Luby's near us. They also go out to eat at Luly's. What gets me though is that they seem to not be too far from the Mexican border. Hmmm.

edit to add: Do you think Alamo beer is supposed to be Lone Star?

12. I really think Arlen is a smallish town
in SE Texas... otherwise, how do you explain their close connection to Houston?

You hear them mention Houston quite often...

13. That's true
But a lot of the references are in the Dallas area. I know
that doesn't mean squat - it's a cartoon - but they seem
to be equidistant to Mexico and Oklahoma. Maybe near Austin?

14. Both Garland and Arlington are excellent candidates for Arlen
Never thought of the Lone Star/Alamo connection, but I wouldn't be the least bit surprised. Except that Alamo Beer is, in the words of it's CEO, a Delaware-based LLC. Some Texans might not take too kindly to drinking Delaware beer with a Texan label.

5. As far as I know, it has never been explained.
The earliest glimpse of Dale and Nancy is in "My Own Private Rodeo," and it's flashback footage of their wedding day. There is also a flashback scene in "Patch Boomhauer" that shows Dale at his bachelor party, but again no explanation of how they met is given.

8. I don't know and Dale Gribble is my most favorite character
on the show, followed by my male cartoon equivalent, Bill.

11. I love Dale
The guy that does his voice started at Backdoor Comedy
which we used to frequent because hubby did standup there.
I liked the paintball fight between the middle aged men and
the teenagers. Dale cracked me up. "The killing fields of
the Fun Center."
