WW2 buffs might find this interesting. |

Russian T34/76 captured by the German and put into use was found in a lake in Estonia and they pulled it out. It is amazing the condition it is in. http://www.aircraftresourcecenter.com/TPC/Funny_Pictures/1001-2000/1701-1800/89.shtm

1. That's amazing. It IS in really good condition, considering. |
|
The only worry is the recovered ordinance. Hope they had a bomb squad in to defuse the shells. The T-34 was an incredible machine. As an ex-tanker myself, I would have felt confident going into battle against contemporary tanks.

3. I am wondering if the peat it was buried under helped preserve it. |
|
since some of the things they are finding the peat bogs of Ireland and England.

7. I'm betting it does. I don't know chapter and verse on the properties of peat, |
|
but I seem to remember it slows the process of oxidation, which would explain both the preservation of the bog corpses of the British Isles, and the remarkable lack of rust on the T-34. What a find!

5. Reminds me of the P-38 found encased in ice. |
|
It was restored and flew!
The cold water really preserves things pretty well.

It was cool how they got it out. If I am thinking of the one you are talking about.

And an 76A no less. I started trying to figure out what model it was from the pictures than decided it was easier to read the article.

17. The Russians did a great job building those tanks. |
|
The Germans started using their designs, and we incorporated some of it in ours.
