I wonder what it was that the guides offered them? Some sort of hallucinogen? Something to assist with oxygen debt?

I don't know that I would take them either.

43. I've been lucky enough to realise a few of my younger dreams
...I lived in Europe and the Caribbean. I've gone backstage at major rock concerts and met the bands.

But now I'm old, my one and only goal is to spend as much time as possible with the people I love. Because you're right: life is too fucking short, and can change in an instant. I lost my mom in January--she was 82, so I had a lot of years with her, but it didn't make it any easier when she died. What did help me through is knowing that we had a lot of quality time went a lot of great places and worked out any emotional issues we might have had.

That's my formula with everyone. That way, if you lose someone you're grieving cuz you miss them, not because you left something unsaid or unfinished.

I guess that's truly a middle-aged perspective, isn't it? I didn't feel this way 20 years ago!

They even have clubs that hike together and they mark where they left off
and then go back a year later and continue. Baby steps! It probably would
be beautiful in the fall to hike parts of it!
