Some people like to think they're really liberal, but really don't want to hear the opinions of others, and really don't want to listen to any one who counters their own opinion. I know this is widely true of people in life in general, and of pubs in particular, but I really have to say some people from DU (esp. in GD) are like that too. I never really experienced it much before (poor, sad virgin me! :rofl:), but I did today. I have to say now that Forrest Gump is one of my closest advisors, sad that it might be: "If I don't have something nice to say, I shouldn't say it at all." But when I get posts deleted, with a strong opinion aimed at someone in the media (no one on DU), that we might as well give up being liberals and say farewell. It's radical to me to think that someone would go to the lengths of having a post deleted when they have their feelings hurt, or a swear is made in a post. I won't say I'm in danger of leaving DU yet, but.... I've always felt I could swear as much as I wanted, and that if a person is in the public eye that they are ripe for my derision if necessary, but I must say that the events of today seem to transcend my feeling of security here at DU. Some people are wreaking havoc on DU in their own narrow minded haze and intolerability of people with different opinions.

We've all been there, but the tainting of America by those intolerant of others and disrespectful of the opinions of others at DU is making me doubt my own ability to speak my mind. It seems like the freedom of speech is now a treasured (and endangered) commodity. Sad.

I've put people on "ignore" in the past and taken them off again for the reason that everyone has their own rights to state their opinion, but today two people got put on ignore and they will stay there forever. And if this activity of censoring free speech continues by some people, my list will grow to the point where DU will not be a place I ever want to come to again. I might find more liberal freedoms elsewhere, where respect for the difference of opinion goes without saying.

I suppose I might get this deleted as well, at which point I might as well just say "goodbye" to anyone and everyone who really gives a damn. Because I won't care anymore. Just saying.
