TAMPA - A 45-year-old man who raised pit bulls using steroids was charged with animal cruelty Wednesday, Hillsborough County Animal Services reported.

Raymond Doerfler of 8116 N. River Shore Drive was breeding "nuclear-sized pit bulls," Animal Services spokeswoman Marti Ryan said.
