We got the house!
We got this awesome 100 year old farmhouse. We're sure it's going to be a money pit, but neither myself nor my Spicy Spam Haruka care. We love it! The living room and dining room have beautiful wood paneling. There's an amazing fireplace and the most gorgeous wide-planked wood floors. It's on almost an acre and it's in a wooded area, so the cats will love it!

I'll post some pictures once we move in.

It's a farmhouse, but there's no longer a farm connected to it. So there's no barn, but it's still a really cool house.

Just camping. Simple and so great. For six months. Then, when you've got it covered, you can think of it as living the dream. I wish you well in that. With your combined efforts, it ought to be very pleasant.

46. When I first moved into my old house in 1994
Edited on Fri Sep-28-07 01:02 AM by Mugu
(first taxes paid on the house in 1894,) my ladyfriend was sitting on the stairs in the basement while I was pouring salt into the water softener. She suddenly jumped up and started to run upstairs, stuttering the whole time, something she doesn't normally do (running or stuttering.) Sna, sna, sna, I had no idea what she was trying to say. I finally looked down and observed a Garder snake crawling out from under the brine tank. I took the snake outside and released it, and have had no further snake problems. My ladyfriend has only recently (13 years later) been willing to reenter my basement. And then only with my assurance that there are no snakes. With my high-voltage experiments, she is unwilling/scared to venture onto my porch (some phobia about things unexpectedly catching fire.) You would think that at some point she would become claustrophobic. But, for some reason she's willing to set aside her prejudices to visit me. There's no doubt that she's a keeper, even if she trembles/quakes uncontrollably at times.

Regards, Mugu

Your sounds beautiful and amazing. Ours was built in the 1880's and we love it..even if I do mutter I hate this house sometimes..especially when it's costing us repair money. But hey..what house doesn't eventually require repairs?

One thing I've learned about our old houses..old growth trees were much stronger than the new/fast growth nowadays.

Enjoy!
